Available now, this bright, skylit artist loft at 2571 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley’s historic Shattuck Studios is offered as a month-to-month sublet for $1,300 per month, with all utilities and high-speed internet included. Roughly 900 sq ft with 12-foot ceilings, the open-plan space is washed in soft, even daylight from continuous north-facing skylights, further diffused by dreamy linen drapes—ideal for painters, photographers, designers, or founders who need flawless natural light. The layout flows from a welcoming lounge—deep-green velvet chairs, a sofa–daybed, nesting tables and floor cushions—to three desks with ergonomic chairs and abundant outlets, plus an open maker bay equipped with an easel, garment rack, and 9-ft backdrop stand for shoots or large-scale projects. White gallery walls, sisal rugs, and original painted plank floors create a neutral backdrop for any creative vision. Furniture can be adjusted and all walls can be cleared depending on your medium and needs.
The space pictured is the area being rented out. There is an adjacent space with a door (you can see in the photo) that is used by myself. And there is an adjoined space (not pictured) where another artist works. All the spaces in the building are multiple areas and often shared.
Rent includes fiber Wi-Fi, PG&E, water, and trash, as well as dimmable track lighting, a mini-fridge, electric kettle, glassware, and access to a restroom and kitchen just down the hall. Load-in is simple via ground-floor double doors and the location is a five-minute walk from Ashby BART with two-hour street parking and nearby paid lots for drivers. The Shattuck Studios community is quiet and respectful; building quiet hours run 9 p.m.–8 a.m., and smoking or open flames are not allowed. Well-behaved pets are welcome but must stay leashed in common areas, and tenants are asked to return furniture or artwork to its original spot and pack out large trash after events.
Move-in is flexible, secured by a straightforward month-to-month agreement (30-day notice to vacate) and a standard security deposit equivalent to one month’s rent. To tour the loft share your preferred start date and a bit about your creative practice—we look forward to welcoming you to this light-filled Berkeley retreat.
