Hi. Going to try a different approach to my musician/band-finding listing here for once finally.
Long time East Bay drummer, formerly of Mute Socialite and Surplus 1980, and former percussionist of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, looking to join a creative, open minded band. That said, being a former SGM member, I should note that I am NOT interested in creating music similar to SGM (or Mute Socialite) for that matter and looking for something different to form.
I like a lot of the old and searching for the new: the Ex, the Fall, This Heat, KUKL, ESG, Tussle, King Crimson, Guerilla Toss, The Necks, Ex-Easter Island Head, Magazine, Pylon, Bill Nelson's Red Noise, XTC, Automatic, Horse Lords, Prolapse, Cardiacs, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, Erase Errata, etc. I'm looking for something has a creative spin that is more along the lines that grooves and moves in a post punk/minimalist that explores sound rather than just odd time signatures (though the occasional 5/4 or 7/4 or whatever is fine).
With that, I'll state that I am not interested in nu metal, metal in general, straight ahead rock, hardcore, anything blues, or rapcore (only stating because there were responses with those genres; not going to work, sorry).
I have a rehearsal space in Oakland near Jack London, or can come to you if in Oakland or Berkeley. If you are looking for a drummer please do give links or samples of your band/project who would like to do more than just "jam" and play Radiohead covers (fyi: not into Radiohead). I would prefer to play with musicians who are into the same thing or close to it. I'm would like to work with people who are queer/trans friendly and would prefer to not have a band be all just men a mix of people.
