Tune Bass Maniac with Alembic P/J pickups, made in Japan around 1990. This bass was purchased used from a shop in Japan. It has some dings in the finish from its previous life but is fully functional. The truss rod works fine, the tuners turn smoothly, and the frets are in good condition. The shop in Japan from where I purchased this bass said that the jack was replaced. The jack works fine with no issues. The saddle screws turn smoothly and the bridge is solid with a good weight to it without making the bass heavy.
The bass does not appear to have an Alembic preamp. The controls are volume, blend, bass and treble. The electronics work fine, though the range of adjustment on the bass and treble knobs is less than one would expect. I usually just turn the bass and treble up full as the bass has a nice tone and percussive attack. It sounds quite good slapped. Please refer to the demo video for a sound sample I found on YouTube (please note this is not me or this particular bass in the video. It is a way for you to hear what a Tune bass Maniac sounds like). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9iSeXiOOGs
In the battery slot, there used to be a piece of foam under the battery but it has long since disintegrated. While the battery is secure, it can move a few mm and bump against the electronics cover. I placed a piece of electrical tape along the side of the battery to make up for the missing foam underneath and keep the battery from wiggling in its slot. The battery is fine without it, but it keeps it from occasionally bumping against the cover.
One interesting note about this bass is that with its Daddario 45-105 strings, it has nice string tension. The truss rod adjustment screw is slightly bigger than those on my other basses. This leads me to believe it has a slightly larger truss rod, which seems to give better string tension (compared to my Sire p-bass).
Please note that the truss rod and saddle adjustments need a metric toolset that is not included.
Why am I selling? I have too many basses and want to thin the herd. This bass served as a backup and hasn’t seen much playing time on my part (which is to say I didn’t add to its existing dings and blemishes).
The bass comes with a new soft case in mint condition.
