ORIGIONALLY OFFERED FOR SALE AT BEST REASONABLE OFFER
I posted this some time ago originally offered for sale with no price at O.B.O. As you might imagine, I had a limited response. Most folks were keenly interested in some of the more desirable or vintage collectible stuff. Microphones, rack gear, drivers etc. but lacked the desire, dollars, and domicile dimensions to take on a full 20-foot bobtail worth of crap to get their prized McGuffin.
I thought about it, and, yeah, old, heavy, large, analog gear is plentiful and while still being useful and sometimes preferred, not all that needed in such a large quantity and potentially high cost just to get what you actually want. “Buying the cow to get the milk” so to say.
Story time – feed the cat and buckle up.
45 years ago, I started a small sound company in Denver with a pint of blood, a box of chicken, and two JBL 4560’s. I worked mostly for local acts in local bars, county fairs, and the occasional one-offs with national acts touring those local bars. It was a different time then; everyone hauled their own lights and sound or hired them locally. Few venues had house rigs. If we ever meet, remind me to tell you the Ronald Regan, Smothers Brothers, and Wendy O’ Williams stories.
Anyway, I got married and had to get a real job.
In 2012 I met an amazing man who’d quit a 6-figure job to become a middle school teacher. Corporate life did not fill his heart. He was deeply troubled at the failure of his students to achieve any of their potential in life, both academically and culturally, largely due to the fact as that, as his students said, “it ain’t cool to be smart”. He started a self-funded after-school program that began to address those issues from the inside out. By the time I met him he had put many of those same students through the high school graduation line and into colleges with a 100% graduation rate. He is an amazing man, the program has grown nationally, he speaks at TED, he’s appeared on national news and, been featured in notable documentaries. His name and organization, if you wish, is Ashanti Branch, founder, Ever Forward Club.
Ashanti did an annual fund raising / out-reach / awareness / celebration event called “The EFC 24hr Relay” a very small, bare bones 24-hour run/walk event similar to the breast cancer events popular at the time. I was asked by a mutual friend, who knew my history as a sound guy turned plumber, and was helping Ashanti put on these shoe-string budget events, to provide a small PA for playback music during the event, and “maybe ad an MC mic?”
I said “Absolutely!” And I began to buy all the cool shit I couldn’t afford in the 80’s. I strong- armed some friends and competitors into joining me in donating to the EFC and I produced Ashanti’s events for several years and using the rig as a tax write off and promoting my plumbing business as a community supporter, began offering the rig to other low budget non-profits at no charge. I made sure to not get into the “sound business” and kept well away from the commercial space so as to not compete with the actual “Pro’s”. But as a boat owner, I had more money than brains, and a 60x100 man cave, and shit was cheap, so I ended up with this monster home stereo which I now offer to you - my dear friends.
“Ok” you say, “I still don’t want your “2000 lbs. of 130 dB of 32Hz. @ 1w/m “– even if it’s on wheels.”
I get it….
Here’s what I’m thinkin’… Hear me out, please.
I don’t know what you’re looking for, maybe a small 400w amplifier for your practice PA, or a set of working drivers for your blown-up Line 6 twin. Maybe a small gig-in-a-box for the twins’ band. I dunno’. Whatever it is, let’s say you only have a $200 budget. Ok,… let’s say you have $200 bucks and a sense of adventure! A thrill-seeker are you? You’re a two-hundred-dollar havin’ thrill seeker, that’s who you are! AND you need a kick-ass-kick-mic, say like an EV PL33! Good choice. Now, you could get one, if you can find one, for say $100 to $150. Or…maybe a Heil PR40? Even better! Finding one for less than $250 is a stretch, but hell, your clapped out 12pc.Tama - Lars wannabe - Imperial Star, concert tom, no-reso kick drum deserves it right!!?? I have one. Actually, I have both! And I have a way for you to possibly own them both for only $200 without having to buy the other 43 cubic yards of shit… Keep reading.
I’m old, fat, and in very poor health, (cancer, stroke, heart attack, no shit.) and I want to spend the rest of my days living in a van down by the river, pooping in a bucket, and fishing with my - doing math – 8, (maybe 9, I’m really bad at math and my son is very active) grandkids. I already have the van, and I want to be in Colorado by the end of the first week in August and my lease is up at the end of July.
I do not have the time to break down, box, and bubble-wrap all this shit and list it on FaceBay’slist. I don’t want or have the time to deal with it – BUT….my stereo gotta’ go.
Ok, this may not work, it depends on you, dear reader, but I think I’ve come up with a win-win for everybody, even some folks who don’t know about or need any of this stuff, flea market / yard sale “turn n’ burners” - Ya know? If you do, let them know, please?
Did you know SWAG is an acronym for “Stuff We All Get”? well neither did I – So let me float “RSWAG”.
“Raffle / Swap/ Auction / Giveaway” - “RSWAG” - ”Our Stuff We All Get”… HA!! See what I did there? This shit writes itself when you’ve been up 32 hours with a Bunn commercial coffee machine at your disposal.
Ok – here’s the plan, I sell - you buy - 40 raffle tix at $200 apiece and we all meet for free snacks and lunch. Coffee/donuts/pizza/ beer (my dime). I give away 40 packages, or lots, to ALL of the 40 ticket holders. Each lot is conservatively valued with a “SCRAP” valuation in addition to their “ASK and “TAKE” values. I used my phones Google AI to verify and update my estimates, and man, was I surprised what some of this shit is worth, both higher and lower than one might expect. You be the judge, I’m Just sayin’, I think it’s pretty damn fair. Sincerely.
After the raffle, we swap, barter, trade, or sell the booty while having lunch. After lunch, if you’re still hankerin’, we auction whatever is not in your future plans. I don’t see how you could resist. AND - every ticket is guaranteed to win a prize valued between $75.00 and $1500.00 scrap value, and with an average of $420.00. If you’re an average playa…That’s a 71% chance of getting your money back. Almost a “can’t lose proposition.
My intention is that I gets me money, an’ most o’ you’s gets way more stuff than $200 could buy, then we keep, trade, buy, sell, or auction it during a rollicking afternoon adult lunch, and then retire to our respective studios, practice rooms, and rooftops with our booty, each having attained what we need to get what we really want, which is of course the love of a good woman.
Ok, so, take a look at the Lots’. I’ve tried to break this literal truck load of stuff into valuable stand-alone parcels that are useable if wanted or can be turned into a profit easily if you don’t get what you’re in search of during the swap / auction phase. Like Lot # 6 – “Gig-In-A-Box”, a complete system needing just mic stands, cables and drum/inst mics. It already has 4 UHF vocal mics. Really, take a look! Want a power amp but won a 4’x2’x2’ ATA case of mic stands? I’m pretty sure there’s a CS400 around here somewhere, and “Gig-in-a-box guy needs some stands!
You won Lot 1? A $3000.00 large format (heavy, old, yes, but with the highest quality capacitors ever produced) semi-automated 32+4 Mix Desk with 20 aux sends? And you don’t need it? For $200.00 I’m pretty fuckin’ sure once you figure out how to move the fucker, you’ll make out just fine. For what it’s worth, I picked it up in a Chevy Silverado.
You get my drift. Either way, you’ll have more fun than the last time you dropped a cupple’ hunnie’s on red and it came up black. I mean, who hasn’t done that!?
C’mon, it’s an adventure…
Raffle tickets are $200 ea. Multiple entries are available on a "first come first serve" basis via rsvp email and strictly limited to only 40 tickets. Once a ticket is drawn it will be eliminated and not recycled. Your chances of getting a more desirable prize go up the longer the raffle goes on, up to a point, but that’s the fun, right?
The first 8 Lots each have a value of $2000.00 or more all with “SCRAP “values of over $1000.00. Even at scrap, you’ll get a minimum ROI of 400%. You shrewd bastard you!!
RSVP by email only to CL Chat – Craig won’t let me put my email in the ad.
• RSVP NOW to get the best shot at getting multiple tickets
• Enter "I want your stuff" in the subject line
• In the body, include your name & phone number and # of tix desired ($200 ea.) and # of +1's
• (1 per ticket limit, no ticket but RSVP’d? go ahead, bring a +1, I just need a head count for beer)
• You will receive a confirmation phone call with your reservation number, the number of tix available, and the address of the event, no deposits, zelle, etc. is required, this is not a scam. You will be expected to show up however…
• If RSVP ticket requests exceed 40, a waiting list will be created and you will have the opportunity to take the place of “no shows”, Either way, with an RSVP you’re eligible for the swap, auction and give away. Oh… and don’t forget the free beer Consuelo…
Maybe I’ll make some “Sammy Hagar Tour-Bus Margaritas”. A secret recipe that was handed down to me by a dear friend who tech’d for Joe Satriani and Hagar. Hmmm…
The event is scheduled for Saturday August 1st In San Leandro
• Doors will open at 9:00 am for check-in, coffee, donuts, inspections, limited testing, and Q&A
• With few exceptions testing will be limited to “power on” only. Good faith is that all my shit worked when the latches were last latched. Bring an ohmmeter if desired. All known defects have been or will be fully disclosed willingly.
• Raffle to be followed by a "swap / barter / sell / trade / lunch”
• The Swap will be followed by an "auction of the unwanted orphans" open to all tix holders to auction any undesired gear or perhaps turn a profit just by showing up.
• Then - a giveaway - it all has to go!! - take it!! - it's yours!! Choice order of leftovers will be determined by RSVP timestamp.
• Bring cash - bring extra cash - bring help - bring a truck – no, bring a bigger truck -bring more of each
• Winners are responsible for their loot and its removal at the end of the event unless other arrangements are made.
• Some lots may be picked up within 72 hours with approval & may require a deposit to ensure their disappearance at the end of 72 hrs.
• NOTE: Valuations were established in good faith. Common sense, and my phone’s Google AI function, your AI may have a different opinion. Don’t be a dick.
