I am selling my beautiful Chickering concert grand built circa 1927-1928, which was considered the "Golden Era" of piano manufacturing before the Great Depression. The over-strung scale design was patented by Steinway in 1860. Chickering was the first company to introduce the metal harp. Some modifications have been made such as the rim being a continuous rim, which is not seen on a lot of older pianos. The action has been rebuilt, and is on the moderately heavy side.
Originally owned by jazz pianist Chuck Abercrombie in Stinson Beach; this piano could easily go for $20,000. Chickering piano manufacturing was head to head with Steinway back in those days. Unfortunately the piano factory mysteriously burned down. As a piano teacher, I think it’s on par with a Steinway D concert grand. I am selling the piano since I am now living in a small studio in Los Angeles and do not have space.
