Your opportunity to own a truly one of a kind instrument, here we have a beautiful solid-top Yamaha FG-365Sii that has been converted into an eight-string instrument. Depending on the strings, tuning and musical style this can now be played as an octave mandolin, a double-strung tenor or plectrum guitar, a cello-mando, or even just a regular six-string. Currently tuned GDAE as an octave mandolin. Playing sweetly with resonance and clarity of tone.
The underlying instrument was used and in fair condition with several cosmetic and minor structural issues, the most noticable of which are some damage to the front and back and a noticable hole near the neck which was likely caused by an improperly installed strap button. There's also a solidly repaired top crack that has an ugly repair, and then some extra glue squeeze out inside the body. Still this is a reasonably nice player's example of this iconic model, but please carefully examine the photos to know what you're getting and ask any questions. This instrument is not pristine.
Solid spruce top, gorgeous rosewood sides and back, quality Yamaha build, beautiful three-piece back in the style of the Martin D-35 it was built to compete with.
I am happy to set this up however you like if purchased at the asking price, or for a small charge otherwise. There are a TON of different configurations this instrument can play in, and I'm sure you will think of more. For any given setup, I customize the string gauges as well, to ensure good playability and prevent overloading the guitar.
The conversion process entailed, among other steps, resizing tuner holes, fitting two additional tuners, adapting and fitting a nut, replacing and leveling the saddle, and adding four bridge pin holes in the correct positions. The original bridge pin holes are retained, so this instrument can be returned to a six-string configuration with just a slight nut modification.
I should mention that my focus in these conversions is in providing an excellent and playable instrument at an affordable price, and I'm still working on perfecting the cosmetics.
Shipping available fast, well protected, and fully insured. Cases available for an extra charge.
By the way, I'm happy to do a similar conversion on your instrument, either something you already own or a model you buy new for the purpose. Not all acoustic guitars can easily accommodate the extra pins and tuners, but many can. Shoot me a message if you're interested!
