About Mostly Math
MOSTLY MATH is a unique math education program that recognizes the importance of prioritizing the needs of math students while offering parents an affordable way to help their teens feel positive and confident about their ability to be successful math students.
MMT tutors are brilliant, highly-skilled math educators. They are subject matter experts in math, teaching, and math communication. They’ve chosen professional tutoring as one of their career paths. They create successful math students. They help students become more independent learners, preparing them for their junior and senior years in high school.
We have a passion for math and a passion for excellence in teaching math. MMT values integrity, commitment, transparency, individual responsibility, reciprocity, and mutual respect. MMT was developed by Monica Johnston of M. Lee & Company, an research and education business.
Ms. Johnston began peer tutoring at about 10 years old. She also volunteered to tutor her peers in the Math Lab at San Jose State. About the same time, she began work as a private tutor. She has more than 40 years of experience teaching math, statistics, and writing and has tutored more than a 500 students, mostly one-to-one. In the early 2000s, she developed A Tutor’s Perspective for tutors to share teaching strategies. Ms. Johnston holds a M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University and a B.A. in Math (Statistics) from San Jose State University.
