We are Berkeley EECS students working on robotics research and need first-person video of real-world tasks. We’re looking for a few people whose day-to-day job already involves manual work who are willing to wear a small head-mounted camera while they work.
Jobs that are a great fit include: warehouse / stockroom work, construction or trades, cleaning/janitorial, restaurant back-of-house, delivery, mechanics, movers, etc. Your hands should be in view when you’re doing tasks (grabbing, placing, wiping, using tools, packing, etc.).
If you don’t have a manual labor job but want to participate, recording household chores (dishwashing, folding and putting away clothes, tidying, organizing, light cleaning) also works.
What you’ll do
– Wear a small head-mounted camera that records your point of view
– Follow simple instructions so your hands and the task are in frame when you’re working
– Either:
• wear it during parts of your normal workday OR
• wear it while doing chores at home
– Upload the videos using the instructions we provide
Equipment
– If you already own a POV camera (GoPro or similar) and can mount it on your head/helmet, that’s perfect
– If not, we can provide a recording kit and show you how to use it
Requirements
– 18+ and located in Berkeley / Oakland area
– Have a job that involves manual tasks or are willing to record chores at home
– Able to follow instructions and upload video files (we can help)
How to apply
Please reply with:
– Your name
– Your neighborhood and what kind of job you do (or if you’ll record at home)
– Whether you already have a POV camera
– Typical times you work or do chores
