North Star Residential Home is a 6 bed level 6 home whose mission is to create opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to gain competency, develop relationships and join the community with increasing command over their own lives. We are responsible for the direct supervision of adults with developmental and mental disabilities twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and are looking to fill our full time positions.
As a direct support professional at North Star Residential Home, you will assist with day to day needs of our residents including but not limited to the following:
• Assisting residents with daily personal tasks, including bathing, dressing and toileting.
• Completing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, washing dishes and tidying.
• Facilitate in planning residents schedule.
• Organizing and transporting clients to appointments.
• Shopping for groceries, preparing meals that meet specific resident dietary needs.
• Encouraging residents’ engagement in social networks and communities outings.
• Perform additional task as needed for the home.
Job Requirements
• A High School Diploma or its equivalent (i.e., GED)
• At least 18 years old
• One year experience preferred working with adults with developmental disabilities
• Ability to become certified as a Direct Support Professional within one year of hire
• Current CPR/First Aid certificate
• Current CPI certificate or able to obtain upon hire
• A valid California driver’s license with no violations, and the ability to operate company's vehicle.
• Thorough grasp of advocacy skills and empathetic communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Ability to take initiative and demonstrate resilience and resourcefulness.
• Receptive to feedback
• Pass background clearance and health screening and obtain a TB test

Job Summary:
The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Traveling Instructor provides in-home and community-based support to consumers in their residences. This role focuses on teaching and reinforcing essential daily living skills to help individuals maintain independence and improve their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Travel to consumers’ homes and community locations to provide one-on-one ILS training
Teach skills such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, budgeting, household management, and community navigation
Develop and follow individualized service plans based on each consumer’s goals
Monitor progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
Maintain accurate documentation and reports of services provided
Collaborate with case managers, families, and support teams
Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs preferred
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and manage travel between client locations
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Work Environment:
This position requires frequent local travel to client residences and community settings. Flexible scheduling may be required based on consumer needs.
