If you have been looking for a good water plant for your pond plant filter, hydroponic project or just a good salad then look no further.
Plant based pond filters of various construction are great because it’s a natural filter method that doesn’t need a lot of electricity or expensive gizmos to run. This type of filter just need some water flow and sun light.
I tried many species of plants for my pond filter such as water Lily, duckweed, azolla, cattail, parrot feather, water hyacinth but all had faults. That is until I tried watercress.
The advantages of Watercress are: no need for soil/substrate, cold weather hardly for east bay (most important), grows in full sun to full shade, easy to trim/control, and it’s edible! You can just float watercress in your pond and trim off any excess for your salad.
Watercress is also great for any type of hydroponic system.
