Handmade Amish butcher block from the 1970’s, with some modern updates! I bought this beautiful butcher block from a retired HP executive in Palo Alto, who had bought it on his honeymoon in Pennsylvania in the 1970s. It served as their coffee table for many many decades until I bought it to furnish a galley kitchen, I had in my old house. My new place is much much smaller, and the kitchen is upstairs. This thing weighs about 200 pounds, and even if I could get it upstairs, I don’t have enough space for it.
I have the original wooden legs as well, but I bought the rolling metal casters from a candy company in Hayward to make it easier to move around, as we used it for dinner preparation and display for events when we did parties at the old house.
Pieces like this go for well into the six figures-I have seen less quality production vintage pieces going for up to $6000, and even a BOOS butcher block is going to be over two grand. And that doesn’t include rolling casters that make it more functional. Some of the modern pieces are either hollow or don’t use end grain, and are much lighter, sometimes 50 or 60 pounds. This fully handmade piece higher quality by far, and is closer to the range of 180 to 200 lbs without the metal casters and riser we built for it.
Feel free to message me with any questions! I’m sorry to see this beautiful piece go, but my new kitchen is very small and I would like to see this go to a good home.
