For the lovers of wabi sabi, this antique (~ 1920's era) solid oak teachers desk is a delight. All of the dovetail drawer joints are in excellent, solid condition. The construction and craftsmanship is virtually unparalleled by contemporary manufactured furniture. This desk features a working lock (with key) for the lap drawer. The side drawers both have the functional mechanisms which lock those drawers once the lap drawer is closed & locked--this is fully functional on the right side, whereas in order for the drawers on the left to lock, a simple small metal part needs to be replaced (on the back of the lap drawer, see photo). The drawers are full length (i.e. spanning the full depth of the desk, affording maximum storage).
This has been lovingly cleaned with a light touch (using only beeswax & oil finish) to the finish, leaving the wabi sabi marks of its history of use over the generations. (However, this could be fully scraped/stripped and refinished for a fresh look if desired). Thus there are several minor blemishes which add character, rather than detract. The main unfortunate blemishes are three small holes drilled and filled w/ aluminum on the right front corner. These could be re-filled with wood filler & stained/coated if desired.
The bottom right drawer fits letter sized files. There are both left and right-handed pull out writing 'pads'. Also the rear 'modesty' apron/panel, can be removed for adding a computer monitor stand. If you act fast, you can also have the very solid stand (solid reclaimed redwood) I built to make this into a standing desk (10" tall)...for free.
This desk is made of solid oak (with wood veneer on desk top), it is quite heavy. It will need to be moved by 2 to 4 people, and will require a truck or full sized station wagon/SUV to transport.
