As Retail Assistant Manager, you are a key member of the retail store management team. In this role, you will be a critical leader in the store coaching, developing, and motivating the retail team to directly impact Model Bakery’s organizational goals. You will report directly to both Retail Manager and Executive Chef. You will manage a team of retail staff and baristas to deliver work with the spirit of service, excellence, professionalism, kindness, compassion, and respect of others
Qualifications and requirements:
-Work weekends
-Demonstrates a passion for hospitality and taking care of people
-Must maintain current state issued SERVSafe Manager Certificate
-Able to work full time (the work regularly demands early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
-Ability to lead, deal with the ambiguity, and the prioritizing needed to run a fast-paced environment
-Management experience in specialty coffee, bakery, and/or retail is required
-Aligns with company direction and communicates critical company strategies and changes to teams as needed
-Ensure execution of all visual merchandising standards
-Toast POS experience preferred
-Minimum High School or GED
-Minimum 2years barista experience and ability to fully run a coffee bar.
Core duties/responsibilities
-Operates retail floor with a sense of urgency
-Lead by example in speed, cleanliness, hospitality, and professionalism.
-Place weekly coffee order
-Delegate tasks
-Manage proper administration of rest periods in compliance with CA labor law
-Ensure retail staff upsells on every transaction
-Mastery of product knowledge and production/delivery schedules
-Learn and master Toast POS operating system. Including but not limited to: voiding orders, reimbursements, check & receipt lookup, customer invoices, discounts/promos, backend menu buildout, end of day cash reconciliation, inventory management, etc.)
-Oversees accuracy of third-party order packaging and hand off (Doordash, Uber Eats, & Toast Online)
-Assists Retail Manager with printing of menus and retail signs for baked goods
-Ensures proper FIFO procedure
-Expected to praise the retail team and also redirect/couch & counsel when necessary
-Set the tone for each shift with positivity and clear communication
-Address minor team issues in real time; escalate larger issues to management
-Perform drawer counts at opening/closing and report discrepancies
-Track waste log and communicate patterns or concerns to managers
-Enforce food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards at all times
-Expected to run and manage each workstation efficiently
