The Ashby Eatery is a new, small, locally owned restaurant in Berkeley, CA. We are a close-knit kitchen team and are looking for a skilled and dependable Line Cook. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves fast-paced breakfast and lunch service, takes pride in their craft, and wants to grow with us.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and cooking, with an emphasis in elevated breakfast cuisine. Experience in catering environments is a bonus. As a Line Cook, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality meals to our guests while being consistent and taking pride in the little things. This kitchen is a collaborative environment where we check our ego at the door and work together to achieve a common goal of providing a quality product and positive vibes to our local community. Organization is very important due to the compact nature of our space. You’ll be expected to contribute to all aspects of food preparation and cooking during our busy breakfast and lunch rushes. You’ll work closely with our small crew to maintain high standards for quality, speed, and presentation.
Responsibilities
• Prepare and cook menu items on the line during breakfast and lunch service.
• Ability to follow established recipes and standards while also contributing improvements.
• Maintain a clean, organized workstation and uphold food safety standards.
• Assist with prep, restocking, and inventory as needed.
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely service during peak hours.
• Communicate clearly and work cooperatively in a small kitchen.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy on every plate.
• Assist in menu planning and development, contributing creative ideas for seasonal dishes.
• Help with non cooking related tasks, such as dishes, bussing tables, helping set up.
• Support the customers by preparing meals that meet specific dietary needs when required.
• Participate in catering events as needed, providing excellent service and meal presentation.
What We’re Looking For
• Open availability (early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed).
• Experience as a Line Cook or Breakfast Cook in a high-volume restaurant.
• Strong multitasking and time-management skills.
• Food Handlers Certificate required.
• Dependable, positive, and takes pride in their work.
• Excellent knife skills and ability to handle kitchen equipment safely.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food handling.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking initiative when necessary.
• Passionate about food and teamwork — wants to grow with a local business.
