Comes with Box & factory packing. It is in real nice shape and it sounds great with the famous Spectral resolution and clarity and value. As with all Spectral products this model is very highly regarded-these rarely turn up used as their owners love the performance and superior build quality
Besides having an impeccable reputation for great sound, the phono stage in this unit is very flexible- inside it has 2 banks of micro-switches to adjust gain and cartridge loading.
NOTE: that the phono stage does NOT have enough gain for a low out put Moving Coil cartridge. However you can use a Step Up Transformer several available sepertly. A high output MC or MM cartridge is required.
DMC-5 Preamp was the first commercial product from the Spectral Audio Co. in the early '80s. Demian Martin was the designer. He is still regarded as one of the best audio circuit designers in the world. The companion power amp was DMA-50 amp.
The front circuit consists of the super low noise J-FET differential and followed by the PNP, NPN differential gain stages. The final stage was constructed with the FET stages in both phono and line stages. The power supply (+25 and -25) is regulated for lowest noise level. All electrolytic capacitors were updated with the equal or higher valued recently. So this preamp will be trouble-free for the next decades. Preamp has been flawlessly working in both line and phono stages.
This preamp has an outstanding phono stage for both MM or MC depending upon your cartridges on your turntable. The phone input impedance can be selected by the dip switch array inside of the preamp from 10 ohm, 100 ohm, and 800 ohm to 47KOhm. Currently it is set for 47KOhm impedance. The line stage is also very nice as well.
