Position: Special Education Student Support Assistants
Reports To: Director of Special Education Programs
Location: Oakland, CA

Urban Montessori Charter School (UMCS) is seeking experienced, hard working, and high achieving Student Support Assistants for our Oakland based Montessori charter school. We are growing into a TK - 8 school over the next year.

The school aims to bring Montessori's methods and pedagogy into a 21st century urban learning environment that focuses on respect for child-centered inquiry, equity, innovation, and mastery of both skills and knowledge.

Education and/or Experience
• Two years of successful experience leading activities for youth with special behavioral or educational needs and children from diverse backgrounds
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Familiarity with the Montessori method and philosophy

• Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school
• Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively
• Computer literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills
• Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills
• Proof of employment eligibility in the United States
• Maintain a healthy work/life balance
• Able to pass state and federal background checks as well as a TB test
• Able to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification

• Implement student behavioral plans
• Work effectively as a member of a multi‐disciplinary team to develop and implement academic, behavioral, and therapeutic services
• Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs
• Participate in professional development opportunities
• Facilitate and/or participate in required meetings (classroom, school‐wide and supervision)
• Collaborate with classroom team
• Maintain a high standard of professional behavior at all times
• Perform all other duties as necessary as instructed by supervisor
