The Preschool Head Teacher, has the challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead a classroom for preschoolers’ age 3 to 5 years. In this opportunity the Head Teacher plans curriculum, special activities, and events to make learning rewarding for the children. Working alongside Teacher Associates, Therapists, and Site Supervisor the Head Teacher will use their creative ability to find activities that meet the children’s interests, needs, and individual development levels. The Head Teacher finds ways to incorporate the objectives and goals of the curriculum through activities that are creatively, intellectually, and physically stimulating.Being a Head Teacher allows you to connect with children in a positive,engaging way that helps them learn in the ways they are most successful. The role is very hands on and requires high levels of energy and engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee a classroom of children 3 to 5 years of age (including children with behavioral needs
Assist Director/Site Supervisor in designing and implementing daily best practice program model
Ensure that licensing standards and best practices are being implemented on a daily basis
Ensure that classroom environment is adhering to ITERS; CLASS standards
Maintain and order routine supplies and equipment for assigned classroom
Work in conjunction with Site Supervisor to provide direct supervision to assigned associates, interns and volunteers in the implementation of daily activities and agency procedures and policies in the areas of program and personnel
Instruct and train program associates, interns, and volunteers in the treatment of the children
Delegate daily duties for associates, interns, and volunteers
Provide feedback for job performance reviews and evaluations for associates, interns and volunteers
Supervise light housekeeping duties of associates
Participate/lead in team meetings, parent meetings, staff meetings
Report observations of children’s progress at meetings
Create & distribute weekly newsletter to families
Complete required paperwork and ensure teacher associates are completing assigned paperwork in a timely manner
Design and implement curriculum, activities, techniques, etc., to address children’s individual objectives
Assist children in reaching their potential in all developmental areas (gross motor, social-emotional, self-help, fine motor, communication & cognitive)
Monitor condition slips, check the condition of each child on a daily basis and, if needed, follow appropriate procedure for reporting
Supervise children with daily self-help skills such as eating, toileting etc.
Write clearly and concisely
Record children’s progress through observation notes
Complete DRDP-r developmental assessments twice per year on each child enrolled in the assigned classroom
Conduct two parent meetings (related to DRDP developmental results) for each family, two times per year. Document meetings
Responsible for verifying lesson plan reflects children’s individual goals.
Complete child portfolio for each child enrolled in assigned classroom
Keep Director/Site Supervisor informed and updated regarding changes in classroom, children and families
Confer with parents on an as needed basis and write notes to parents
Effective communication with staff, parents, and volunteers/interns
Attend required meetings and trainings
Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the children including planning for emergencies
Supervise the maintenance of assigned classroom and equipment to ensure maximum safety
Duties as assigned

Education and Requirements:
AA or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field
1 year experience working with children with special needs
2 years leading early childhood classroom
Experience with Community Care Licensing Standards
Minimum 12 ECE Units
CA Teacher Permit (Preferred but not required)
Pass physical exam and health screen with TB test
Fingerprint clearance and background check
Maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR

Physical Requirements:
Able to lift, hold, and carry a 40 pound child
Able to sit on floor with children
Able to stand for periods of time
Able to bend over or kneel to meet needs of children
Able to run after a child if necessary
Able to lift and move floor mats and portable equipment
