I had a used engine, same year and model, installed in 2018. It had 120,000 miles and since then I have put about 60,000 miles on the car. The used engine now has "182,000" miles. But the total miles shown on the odometer is 499,000 miles. I realize that the chassis has a lot of miles, but I have always maintained it and it has always been garaged. I am the third owner. Mechanically, It is running great. No issues at this time. It has new tires, new front brakes, new catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. It also has a used on board computer (ECU) and rear shocks. It passed smog on 9/16/25. The seats are black leather. Parts of the front seats have been reupholstered and the arm rests have been redone as well. The interior is in great condition given that it’s a 1994. No major accidents and it is the original paint. I have a stack of records showing all the maintenance I’ve done since I bought the car in 2000. It has been my daily driver until about 2022. Since then I mainly drive it on weekends. After the automatic transmission failed a few years ago. I found a six speed manual transmission and had it installed. Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley has been the primary repair shop that I have used. They have records of all the maintenance I've had done over all the past years. It has a stock radio with an mp3 slot and a six CD changer in the truck. The sound is great.
I updated the rims with bigger tires as you can see by the pictures. I love this car but as I am getting older it is time to let it go, hopefully to someone who can appreciate and maintain this car. With proper maintenance the current engine is probably good for another 300,00 miles. You will be hard pressed to find another 94 540i that looks and runs as good as mine. You have to see it in person to really appreciate the car. Please only serious buyers.
