Early Miatas have an issue after the first clutch replacement that causes an unusual sound while downshifting or while the car is revving down.
It is a sound like “ren ren ren ren ren”
Most people don’t care but it drove me nuts so, I replaced differential with a more current model that resolves the problem.

I purchased the car from my friend in 2005. He was moving back to Ohio and did not want to drive his Oakland-San Francisco daily commuter cross country. We drove together every day and I had grown fond of the car.
Over the first 2 years of ownership I sank an enormous amount of money into this car to bring her back to perfection. After all the bodywork was done, the engine died. It was not the plan but my fate was sealed.
Since buying an Infiniti in 2008 the Miata has been very lightly used and would have been sold earlier if not for the nagging fact that I spent so much time sweat and cash.
Plus, the car is a blast to drive and people always wave and smile as I zoom zoom by.
However, the time has come to move on.
For those looking for an NA Miata for racing, this engine is something very special.
The car just roars up the hills of San Francisco and Berkeley.
The pressure gauge always reads in the 90’s.
The owner of P. R. Motorsports said, consider it a blessing. The engine compression is amazing. This is a Thoroughbred engine.
So yeah stripping the car down for racing would be sad, but she is a winner waiting for a challenge.
