Here is a true California car, beautiful condition with great provenance. I am the second owner having bought it from the estate of the original owner. She was given the car by an uncle when she started her freshman year at U.C. Berkeley. This woman never married and was a true “Car Gal” all her life doing a lot of her own maintenance. When it came to major repairs, she had a first class mechanic she trusted. When an “old part” was replaced she had only OEM Ford parts used. The part was then rebuilt if possible, (think carbs, generator, starter, water pump etc.) the core was then rebuilt, labeled as to mileage when it was taken off the car and then stored away for future use.
This car is as “stock” as they come. It has the std. Ford Flathead V8 motor, three on the tree manual transmission with radio and heater. The interior has been kept up and looks good including the headliner. Being the std. light gray color with matching interior color, it could be said that it’s a bit dull looking as in boring. At least that’s what my young neighbor boys thought when I brought it home to join my “old car” collection. When I asked what they thought it needed the oldest at 7 immediately responded “red pinstripes”. Being a SoCal hot rodder in the ‘50s, I thought to myself - this kid is “right-on”. Only problem was where do you find a real pinstripes these days. I came across some P40 Flying Tiger vinyl decals, large size featuring red, black and white colors. For $15 a pair (left and right), and they fit the curve of the front fender openings nicely, why not. Being vinyl stick on they can always be taken off.
The car needs a little tlc to be driven, I was in the process of bleeding the brakes and adjusting them. I have a new master cylinder which comes with the car and can be easily installed by the new owner to insure having a good system.
The battery is relatively new and has just been charged up and is on “trickle” charger now. The starter button on the dash seems to not operate Sotheby’s engine does not turn over. This needs attention in order to start engine.
The tires are in good shape and the handling is up to snuff. The car could use a good wax job and comes with a usable car cover.
The license is current and the plate is the original period black California plate.
You will get lots of waves and thumbs up where ever you go including your local car show.
