The Sidekick was a project that got close and was fun to drive for short stints. I can't clear smog with it. It has an automatic transmission. It's a cute vehicle but I can't get it road worthy. A hobbyist mechanic could probably work wonders on this. You can hear the engine run, but it does not sustain itself. Fuel pump? Sidekick has peeling clear coat.
The Samurai is essentially a rolling chassis: wheels, axels, frame, steering box, much of the tub, two good doors, dash, couple of rough front bumpers, couple of rough seats, a rough pair of aftermarket seats... and more. No powertrain parts (engine, transmission, transfer case).
Buy them both or buy one. Happy to entertain trades. What do you have?
