I’m writing a popular-science book about how cells work and looking for a scientific illustrator to create clear, intuitive diagrams to accompany the text. The illustrations will cover familiar biology topics—cells, DNA, chromosomes, proteins, cell division, and related concepts—similar in style and scope to what you’d find in a well-designed biology textbook. Precision matters, but the audience is non-technical, so clarity and visual intuition are the top priorities. I’m open to hand-drawn or computer-generated artwork, as long as the final images are clean, readable, and suitable for print.
This is a gig / project-based role, and I’m flexible on approach and workflow. I’m happy to discuss scope and would ask you to propose your fee structure (per diagram, per batch, or hourly).
Ideal candidates may have experience in scientific illustration, biology, medicine, or technical education, but formal credentials aren’t required. If you’ve created clear explanatory diagrams before, I’d love to see them.
