This lovely piece is by the well-known Balinese artist, Huang Fong(1936-2004). Some fifty years ago, I bicycled to his studio some distance outside Ubud and purchased this work, the 'Butterfly Dance' in which he is depicting, in traditional Balinese dance, the mating of a particularly colorful pair of butterflies. Towards the end of his life Huang tended to retain possession of his works. When he sold, though, his pieces brought upwards of $10,000. Collectors, galleries, art dealers and museums have since 1980 sought them.
