Harry J. Waite was a carver who caught an interest in duck decoys at an early age. Growing up near Wilmington on a du Pont estate managed by his father, Waite loved the outdoors. He couldn't afford to buy hunting decoys, so he carved his own. He continued to make ducks throughout his life at his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He died in 2000.
