READ FIRST — How to Apply
Both of these roles involve regular virtual meetings, client communication, and team collaboration, so we want to see how you present and communicate. Please send us a 2–3 minute video of yourself answering the questions below, along with your resume. The video is strongly preferred and will be reviewed first.
Easiest way: record on your phone, upload to Google Drive or YouTube (unlisted), and email the link
In your video, please cover:
Who are you? Quick intro — background, where you are in your career, what you're working on now.
Which role are you applying for? Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager — and why that one.
Why Vought Construction? Look us up online and Instagram. Tell us what you saw that made you reach out.
Why are you a good fit? What do you bring — experience, attitude, work ethic, all of the above?
Tell us about a project you worked on that your proud of and why
What does "hungry" mean to you? We want someone hungry to grow. Tell us what that looks like day-to-day.
Don't overproduce it. Phone camera, good lighting, be yourself. We care more about how you think than how the video looks.
Need an accommodation? If you're unable to submit a video due to a disability or other barrier, email us at and we'll work with you on an alternative format. Vought Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
About Vought Construction
Vought Construction is a premier builder specializing in high-end, luxury homes and complex remodels in the Bay Area. We work from Berkeley to Hillsborough, Marin to Lafayette. Devon Vought founded the company in 2010, starting as a handyman doing small projects — and now building award-winning luxury homes.
We've built a real career pipeline: Assistant Project Manager → Project Manager → Production Manager. Promotions are based on demonstrated competency, not tenure. We invest heavily in our people because the goal is for you to grow with us.
How We Work — Schedule Autonomy (Both Roles)
This is not a typical 9-to-5. A lot of this job happens on Zoom, on site, and in the office — and it shifts day to day. You'll be in required weekly meetings (Monday team call, weekly scheduling meeting, weekly client site meetings). Some days you'll be on jobsites. Some days the office makes more sense. Some days working from home means less driving and more output. You are responsible for your own schedule and tracking your own time. If you need to take two hours in the middle of the day for a doctor's appointment and work later that afternoon, that's totally fine. We trust you to manage yourself like a professional — and we expect you to deliver like one.
Role 1: ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER — $30–$40/hr DOE
This is a growth role. We'll train the right person. You don't need years of experience — you need to be organized, sharp, and hungry.
What you'll do:
Subcontractor coordination — confirm start dates, communicate schedule changes, log everything in JobTread
Subcontractor bid support — help gather competitive pricing for open allowance items
JobTread project setup — upload executed subcontracts, create POs, keep project records current
Inspection scheduling — coordinate with city and county building departments
Green Halo & recycling compliance — set up each project and maintain documentation
Field documentation — site visits, progress photos, observations
Financial literacy training — quarterly company financial reviews, job costing, markup vs. margin
Sales and pre-construction exposure — sit in on handoffs and grow into bigger responsibilities
You should have:
High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's strongly preferred (Construction Management, Business, or related field)
Strong organizational skills — you don't drop details
Excellent written and verbal English — professional written communication is non-negotiable
Professional appearance and conduct. You will be required to wear branded clothing.
Valid driver's license, clean driving record
Basic computer proficiency — email, Google Drive, willingness to learn JobTread
Preferred (not required):
1–3 years of experience in construction, architecture, project coordination, or related
Exposure to the construction trades — understanding how a building goes together is a real advantage
Experience reading architectural plans or construction documents
Role 2: PROJECT MANAGER — $40–$55/hr DOE
We need someone with real PM experience. This is not a training role — you'll be the operational hub of multiple high-end residential projects, owning schedule, budget, client satisfaction, and subcontractor coordination from handoff through closeout.
What you'll own:
Master schedules in JobTread, updated weekly
Client communication — kickoff meetings, weekly site meetings, written progress updates
Project budget and WIP "Estimated Cost to Complete"
RFIs and submittals to architects and engineers
Procurement of long-lead items (windows, doors, etc.)
Superintendent support — making sure the field has everything it needs to keep moving
Closeout — punch list, final inspections, client walkthrough, project archive
You should have:
Proven experience managing residential or commercial construction projects
Strong understanding of construction scheduling, including Critical Path Method (CPM)
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and subcontracts
Excellent written and verbal communication — client-facing professionalism is essential
JobTread experience or the ability to learn construction management software quickly
Valid driver's license, clean driving record
High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's preferred
Background in field trades — foundational understanding of how construction is actually built
Familiarity with construction finance: markup vs. margin, job costing, WIP reporting
Compensation & Benefits (Both Roles)
Assistant Project Manager: $30–$40/hour DOE (for reference, our current APM is at $35/hr)
Project Manager: $40–$55/hour DOE
Health, Dental, and Vision insurance
CalSavers retirement program
72 hours of paid sick time per year
24 hours of paid holiday time per year
Performance Bonus — schedule-based bonus tied to how your projects track against baseline. Paid as additional PTO days (cashable at your day rate if you'd rather take the money). This is on top of your standard sick time and paid holiday — not a replacement.
Project Manager: Up to $7,000 per year
Assistant Project Manager: up to $5,000 per year
Full structure walked through in the interview. Legitimate delays (weather, city, signed change orders) don't count against you.
