Ibis knew that the narrow profile of current mountain bike rims did not produce the most efficient or strongest results. So, they set out to create a rim that would meet the demands of today's mountain bikers and mountain bikes. Wide rims were present on the earliest mountain bikes, and they rode well, really well, but they were very heavy and weak. Ibis knew that with modern technologies they could take the advantages of the wide rims of the past, and create rims that were much wider than the current standard with none of drawbacks of the past. They are not just wider, but they provide added strength, better sidewall support, enhanced contact patch, improved burp resistance and lower rolling resistance. The 738 rim is made of 6066 Aluminum, with an outer width of 38mm, and an inner width of 34mm, and is tubeless ready. It is drilled for 32 spokes, making them compatible with many popular brands of hubs. Build the 738 with your favorite hubs and tires and you will have a wheelset that is blazing fast and bombproof.
