PICS ON REQUEST
I have a collection of high end steel bike frames and forks that I'm reluctantly selling off because I've decided they are to small a size for myself or I have to many frames to build. They are all about 57cm ctc to 60cm ctt. Open to reasonable offers. **Available to meet in the Oakland area for serious buyers.
1) BASSO FIOR DI LOTO, Those who know - know. Excellent Italian race pedigree! Rare early 90s 57cm ctc made with the legendary stiff and light Columbus SLX tubing - frame and fork. Comes with headset and BB. Red and pearl white frame and fork are straight. Has some paint peeling on bottom of the top tube as seen in one of the pics but can be matched and touched up. I believe this was a custom pro race bike built for a team since it has the race number card holder braze-on under the top tube. Here's one going for $800 on ebay. Asking only $275
2) TREK 760 with full Reynolds 531c frame and fork with the headset. The 700 series Treks were some of their highest series bikes. 57cm ctc. Straight but previously had some surface rust near cable guides that has been treated and removed and is now bare healthy metal ready for touch up paint. Vintage Trek steel bikes are excellent riding bikes! They do everything good steel should do. Asking only $150
3) VITUS 979 - 57cm ctc frame and fork and headset races - light aluminum tubes in royal blue bonded to alloy lugs.
These tubes were not painted but anodized for a beautiful long lasting and durable finish. If you polished the aluminum on this bike it would look like a piece of jewelry. This is an iconic 80s race bike ridden by Sean Kelly and the like to many a victory. It is known for its very forgiving and compliant ride so makes a great everyday fast and light urban rider. This is the lightest production frame of that era at only a hair over 1400g for the frame. That was considered SUPER light for a bike frame at a time when the top end light steel frames weighed in at about 2000- 2200g. As a comparison the carbon bonded frames of that era considered the high tech best of the best were running around 1600-1700 grams. You could build this up to a 18lb ish bike no problem. Asking $150 --- Note: I have some of the original Mavic parts and components from the bike available at an additional cost.
5) CENTURION COMP TA frame:
This elegant and stunning silver-gold colored (pics don't do it justice) 1984 Centurion was number two in line from the top end just behind Centurions top flagship race bike the Turbo 12 which garnered much praise among professional reviewers and steel enthusiasts. This model is very rare and hard to find. The only difference was the Turbo had No 1 tubing while the TA had No 2 frame and fork. Champion 1 and 2 (Early Tange) tubing were two of the best tubings available bar none.
A word about Champion 1 vs Champion 2 tubing. Is 1 that much better?
You might assume the No 2 is inferior to No 1 ...right? Not really. The difference between the tube sets is a mere 70 grams, insignificant as weight goes, and two of the No. 2 main tubes were .01 thicker then the Champion 1 tubing making No 2 slightly stiffer for a bit better power transfer when climbing hills. So for a mere 70 grams you get a stiffer frame.
Bottom line is this is a very nice high end Japanese steel race bike. 57cm, ctc $125
6) MARINONI SQUADRA frame and fork. Legendary frame builder Italian-Canadian Giuseppe Marinoni built many high end racing frames for professional teams throughout the 80s and 90s. This is one like those. Columbus SLX tubes with Campagnolo dropouts. Very nice fastback stays and lugwork. Paint and decals a bit faded and the normal paint chips but everything is straight. A premium 80s- 90s steel frame that is light at 2000g with a 700g fork. If you like you can give this an inexpensive powder coat and some new decals and you have essentially a new Marinoni. 58cm ctc seat tube and a 56.5cm ctc top tube. $200
7) Peugeot PGN10 frame and fork. A very nice mid-high level mid 80s Peugeot with Reynolds 501 double butted Chromo. Comes with headset and bb. 59x 57cm $125
