Shenanigans is hull number 88 of the 230 of these highly successful racer/cruisers designed by Rod Johnstone built by J Boats Tillotson Pearson from 1994 to 2006. Being relatively light for a 40 footer, these boats have a well-deserved reputation for being both fast cruisers, with particularly good shorthanded sailing abilities, and competitive racers that are capable of mid-teens speed with a full crew and a good breeze.
"Shenanigans" has demonstrated her capabilities in both arenas. She spent the first portion of her life as a successful racer in Southern California. In October of 2021, her new owners upgraded and outfitted her for the cruise that took her to Mexico for two years. She could easily be returned to full racing status, but she is currently set up for further long-distance, blue water cruising.
A more detailed list can be provided to seriously interested parties on request, but some highlights are the following: Her electronics and instrumentation include a Simrad NSS-8 chart plotter with NAIS 400 AIS Transceiver/GPS and B&G autopilot with SIMRAD NAIS-2 computer. In December, 2024, her topsides were cleaned and new bottom paint applied.
As previously noted, the above list is a partial list. However, it should be more than enough to show what a tremendous value this boat will be to the sailor or sailing family who, although looking for an exceptionally capable cruiser, might also want to ambush a few boats on a Bay or ocean race course now and then. Do the homework. Look at the comps to see what these boats are selling for. But don’t wait too long or she’ll be gone.
