The VanMoof S3 was, upon launch, often referred to as the Tesla of e-bikes. The iconic design comes out of the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the company filed for bankruptcy in 2023. The good news is that Vanmoof was acquired out of bankruptcy by the McLaren spin-off McLaren Applied. They continue to support the old bikes, and have launched the new S6, which appears to be essentially identical in appearance to the S3 and currently retails for 3,298 Euros (it is not yet available in the USA).
The firm Rybit services the S3 locally out of their shop on Brannon Street in San Francisco. They operate a fleet of rental S3s, you can rent a bike like the one on offer for $139/month. The presence of Rybit is a big relief for local Moofers, ensuring a supply of parts and competent service.
The bike on offer is equipped with the original e-shifter and includes a spare. It includes an installed Vanmoof rear rack and Wald basket and the Vanmoof front rack, which is not installed. It comes with the original tool kit and battery charger. This bike is ready to ride, very clean, everything is tuned and adjusted. Conveniently located three blocks from the Lake Merritt BART station and five blocks from the Oak Street exit off of 880.
