Japanese Blue Arita Vase, 10” tall, rectangular shaped 4 3/4” x 5”with signed tomobako (wooden box) signed on bottom of vase and on tomobako, over 50 years old, in perfect shape. From the informaition on the box, it appears that this vase was made at the Kin Ho kiln (aka Kin Po), in Ide, Japan.which is a family kiln, operated by father and son respectively. Father was born in Meiji era, (1868-1912) son born in Taisho era (July 30 1912-December 1928. This vase was purchased by my parents in 1979 strongly suggesting it was made by the son or employed potters working under the direction of the son.
Arita Porcelain has been made since the end of the 16th century with the discovery of Izumiyama porcelain stone in the area. From its beginning it was a popular export to Europe and many kilns are production style.
