Gary Holt, Berkeley potter (1937-2019), soluble salts on porcelain Chawan (teabowl); Guinomi,(sake cup) made around 2005 or a little earlier. The Chawan is 4 1/2" wide by 4” tall; the guinomi is 2 1/2” x 2” tall.
Holt was a pioneer in his technique of water-soluble metal salt (WSMS) application. His work has a unique soft muted color feel and for me the teabowl feels like the expression of a Miro painting. Both pieces are signed on the bottom and the guinomi has a signed tomobako (wooden style Japanese box used for packaging pottery in Japan).
Yearly Gary had a holiday sale at his pottery kiln from the Friday after Thanksgiving to the weekend before Christmas.
Chawan price is $200.00 and the guinomi price is $175.00 or both for $350.00
