Have fun caroling for charity for two hours in December (All Bay Area)

Hello! We need as many people as possible to help out for the second annual "Carol for a Cause." You don't need to be a good singer you just need to have a good heart. You will be singing in groups of about 8 to 10 during a one night in December wandering through neighborhoods fairly local to where you live or further away if you so choose. It will probably be around 7 to 9pm at night. There will be advanced notice for the neighborhoods so they can look forward to your group’s arrival and we will have one of the event organizers with you to help with organizing and executing the actual night of the event. One of the main purposes for the evening is to accept donations from the houses we pass by and use that for various charities in the bay area of which each group will choose to represent from an option of five bay area charities.

Mostly though it will be fun and bring the Christmas spirit to many who may be feeling a bit, well, hum bug.

Last year was our first year doing the event and we had 4 groups go out caroling and raised just shy of $2000 which went to various local charities. It was a magical experience seeing people’s faces light up as we came caroling along their neighborhoods. We received a lot of love as well as requests to make this a yearly event. We are determined to build off last year and grow in size so that we may bring the joy of caroling to many areas and in turn gather much needed donations for people less fortunate than we currently may be.

Please reply to this email or to sublimelavelle@gmail.com if you are interested and let me know if you have others that may be interested in joining us as well. Another possibility to consider is to have your business sponsor a group of employees and they could maybe wear some sort of company logo (hat, sweatshirt etc.) as they go out caroling. We could also have groups compete to see who could raise the most donations if you are so inclined. While whole groups (schools, business, churches) are encouraged most of our volunteers are individuals which we place together in a group which as it turns out, is a great way to meet amazing people such as yourself!

Once we get an idea of the scope of volunteers we can start planning more details during the next two weeks.

Thanks for reading and we hope you will consider joining us for a couple of hours of merriment in December!

Please visit our MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/431701876 and add us as a friend

We have also set up a facebook account under “Caroling BayArea”

Happy Holidays!!

Quilts for children is an organization that provides small homemade quilts for children who are hospitalized for periods of time. They send the quilt packages to you.. all fabric, cut and ready to assemble, you provide the batting and the needlework. I have preordered and received four kits. I am hoping someone (maybe MANY someones!) will want to join in and help make a small child smile if even for a little bit. Hospitals are very scary for adults and worse for children. If you would like to assist or perhaps you dont sew and would like to donate the batting (crib sized) or more 100 percent cotton childrens fabric for additional quilts it would be greatly appreciated. The quilt kits are located right off 280 and Saratoga Avenue. 408-642-1815

Under One Roof Needs Volunteers! (Downtown, Castro Street)

The 2009 holiday season marks the nineteenth year that Under One Roof has served the HIV/AIDS community. Since 1990, countless volunteers and customers alike have transformed Under One Roof into an organization sustained by compassion.

The mission of Under One Roof has always been to raise unrestricted funding to support our AIDS Service Organization partners through our retail operations. They, in turn, provide direct services to the men, women and children in our community that are affected by HIV/AIDS – services like prevention, housing, meals, advocacy, counseling and more.

While the economic downturn has caused difficulty and disappointment at Under One Roof, it has also created new energy and focus. Despite adversity, we still care and have a renewed commitment to the community. Our temporary holiday store at Westfield Centre in Downtown San Francisco is just one example of the silent promise our volunteers and staff have made to meet the mission of Under One Roof.

Our temporary Holiday Store at the Westfield Centre in San Francisco, located on the 4th Floor Dome Level, offers a unique mix of ornaments, holiday-inspired gifts and San Francisco mementos. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to enhance our fundraising efforts while bringing the message of our mission to a broader audience.

We are looking for individuals interested in volunteering at either our Westfield Centre location (dress code in effect at this location) or at our flagship store at 518A Castro Street. Opportunities include sales, greeting customers, stock work, gift wrapping and more - everything needed to run a retail operation. Shifts are generally 3 to 4 hours from morning through evening.

Because Under One Roof is a volunteer-driven organization, we could really use your help. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer for this holiday season, please contact Chris Christensen at chris@underoneroof.org or at 415-503-2300 x302.

As we approach our twentieth year, with your help, Under One Roof will continue to create hope for those that struggle with HIV/AIDS. Volunteering will help us forge ahead, grow and continue to make a difference.

McDonald Ranch is a 501c3 non profit organization that teaches life skills to youth through their on going service work helping animals in need. We have a sanctuary on 55 acres in Rincon Valley/Santa Rosa. Please visit our website: http://www.mcdonaldranch.org

We get a lot of items donated to us that we desperately need. Unfortunately we’re not able to pick them all up. The items come from the entire Bay Area and we don’t have the resources to travel from the North Bay to get everything that’s being offered to us.

Do you have a pickup, truck or a car with a trailer? Are you looking to volunteer some of your time? We’re hoping to round up some volunteers from around the Bay Area with hopes that they can retrieve these donations and bring them to us. Whether it’s once a month or a one time shot, anything would be greatly appreciated and the item’s you pickup would be put to good use. It also keeps more things out of the landfills.

Sometimes we loose items because people can’t hang onto them until we can arrange pickups. For anyone that has space, would you be able to pick up items close to you and store them until you can get them to us?

There’s also a lot of cleanup to do around here after the storms hit us. We could use volunteers with flatbed trucks also to haul stuff away.

We know gas price is an issue for all of us. We would gladly pay for your gas and for lunch.

If you’re also a non-profit organization, maybe we can work together and share resources.

"Death is not the ultimate tragedy of life. The ultimate tragedy is depersonalization- dying in an alien and sterile area, separated from the spiritual nourishment that comes from being able to reach out to a loving hand, separated from the desire to experience the things that make life worth living, separated from hope." ...Norman Cousins, Anatomy of an Illness

--------
We are looking for Volunteers in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties. Volunteers can bring their smile, "hello," and/or music to our patients who are facing end of their lives.
Hello-

I’m writing to invite you to be part of a service that my son and I will be providing to deserving families this holiday season: “Big Heart 4 Tiny Hands”.

As a parent, I feel we need to demonstrate to our young ones the importance of giving and the joy it can bring...I hope you can relate. These are trying times for many of us...I myself was out of job for 4 months, it really made me think of families that are still struggling. I encourage you to open your heart, be part of this service and help me put a big smile on a tiny face!

Slightly used donations are welcome, please make sure the items are not damaged or dirty, here is what you can donate:

Clothes (Newborn – 5T)

Baby Books

Toys (Small – Medium)

Dry / Canned Baby Food

Call me @ 415.341.2957 to make arrangements for a drop-off, if you’re local, I will gladly pick up your contributions for your convenience.

If you know of a family in need (local) or would like to add your church/community to my distribution list, please provide me with their name/contact information. Also, you can always contribute by spreading the cheer and passing this information to your family and friends!

Saturday, December 19th - last day to contribute.

Sunday, December 20th – need volunteers to help distribute all collected offerings.

I can also be reached via e-mail at nooriet@gmail.com.

Add me to your facebook (nooriet@gmail.com) or connect with me on LinkedIn:

*Please take note, no gift is too small…and all your contributions will go straight to homes that will deeply appreciate your kind gesture! I don’t belong to any organization and am facilitating this purely to add to the holiday spirit, I hope you will too!

Ministries include: serving hot meals to the homeless, food distribution, donation pick up, cultural events, and community building. Community events are held weekly to stimulate and maintain a community oriented house.

We are creating The Octave in San Francisco - an experiment in the healing of the people we love by the process of Entrainment.

What is Entrainment?

It's the magical phenomenon in physics of one atom evoking its "state" in another atom ... a galaxy apart.

How is this possible? How can two atoms share the same state where they're not connected. Physicists attempt to explain it using mind boggling ideas like Quantum Energy.

But we will actually experience it working on Sunday No 15th at the Fort Mason Center.

Join me at 1pm for a free lecture on Entrainment and I will show you how to Entrain positivity and balance in those whom you love ....everywhere.

We will Entrain our loved ones, those who need nurturing, our bodies and each other.

This is a free talk on how Entrainment can be applied to our Relationships, our Health, our Culture, our Undertsanding, our Economy, our Government and our Art

To register just reply to this email and we'll put you on the list - space is limited.

I look forward to spending time with you as we enthrall to this amazing process.

The Padua Dining Room is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our patrons are the needy of the area of the North Fair Oaks community and nearby areas of Menlo Park, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, and unincorporated San Mateo County which include low-income families, elderly, homeless, and newcomers to the area. Many are working members of our community whose wages cannot cover the high cost of living in the Bay Area, especially when supporting a family. All are welcome and all are treated with utmost respect. We provide a multi-course meal to anyone, at no cost, and has been doing so for over three decades.

We currently need to recreate our website and/or create brochures that will be distributed to patrons, foundations, and/or potential volunteers. If you are interested, please contact us via email at diningroomvolunteer@gmail.com and check out our website at http://paduadiningroom.com/ . Your help is very much appreciated.

There are opportunities to volunteer in every grade Kindergarten through high school in almost all subjects English, math, science, art, social studies, PE, music etc.

Here are some examples of requests teachers make:
•	A 1st grade teacher asked for a volunteer to help with literacy. “It would be great to have a volunteer work with small groups and individual students doing tutoring, explaining directions and asking students questions to deepen their learning.”
•	A 9th grade Math teacher said, “I have a very large Algebra 1 class and having a volunteer help students one-on-one or in small groups would be a great assistance. I have students that are highly motivated, but need assistance and encouragement in algebra.”
SMART's mission is to ensure that motivated middle school students have access to a high quality education regardless of their families' financial status. Schools, Mentoring and Resource Team (SMART) is an educational non-profit organization that works with private middle schools in San Francisco to provide motivated students who cannot otherwise afford the opportunities and resources of a private school education. It is SMART's goal that upon graduating from middle school, participants will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and a strong sense of values positioning them for personal and professional success in high school, college and beyond. The SMART program is comprised of five elements: education, mentoring/tutoring, after school programs, summer programs, and family support.

This opportunity compliments a 40 hour work week!

Minimal Commitment: All volunteer's commit to working with their students for one academic school year. Tutors come in once a week for an hour and a half.
Visit our web site at www.theSMARTprogram.org to fill out a volunteer application and learn more about our program.
Requirements: Our volunteers need to be punctual and love working with the public. We count on our volunteers and need them to be on time since we have shows that start on time.

Is there anyone out there, a bona fide 'success' (and therefore 'guru') who has some spare time to help with small business/website marketing and SEO (and/or just helping mentor the business through these tough times)? At some point in my career I have been quite successful despite myself, and recently with help created a WordPress website but it doesn't seem to have much visibility and few calls or emails come in; I would also love to cross reference social/other networks. I have many connections on LinkedIn and receive 2 or 3 plaxo invites everyday (that I cannot accept because over the limit I guess). Since my income right now is 'negative,' I am definitely embarrassed but must seek a volunteer who can come to the house, at least in the short term, and can help move things forward. My home office is near 280, on Stanford land close to the campus. I'm not particularly technical and if I try to actually implement strategies or instructions without someone 'there' to oversee I will surely make a mess of it. The 'project' I envision could be quite challenging and even interesting.

Our non-profit group, Instituto Laboral De La Raza, uses the Salesforce.com
online database system.

We need help with some basic Salesforce.com work
such as entering data - normalizing data - exporting our data for mailings –
and helping our staff and volunteers learn how to use the system better.
If you are familiar with Salesfource.com we could really use some skilled volunteer help.

Founded in 1982, the Instituto serves low income worker in California and the families
that they support. We provide free legal services, peer counseling, financial education
and access to a network of services to the working poor.

We are very well known for an annual National Labor Community Awards that we
organize here in San Francisco, which is the largest event of its kind in the country.

We also organize an annual Green Labor-Capital Forum to promote, using the power
of labor’s capital for growing green jobs and a sustainable economy.

We are uniquely positioned as an organization that brings together business, labor
and civic leaders on common ground of support for services to the working poor.

I encourage you to take a quick look at our www.ilaboral.org web site, which has
a great deal of material on our history and our network of supporters.

The Instituto always has some important and exciting work going on.

Please email or call me if you are available to volunteer and help us with
our Salesforce.com needs.
Overseas volunteers in Tanzania and interns participate in two-week to six-month service-learning programs that focus on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Nutrition Education, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, and International Health. These programs can be experienced through the Community Training, Community Development or Integrated Program formats. GSC also offers a six-month to one-year Seeds of Sustenance (SOS) Fellowship Program for those with an advanced degree in public health, international health or international development. All Tanzania volunteer programs include in-depth cultural orientation and technical training, Swahili lessons, and a safari excursion!

What Our Volunteers Say About Sustainable Agriculture Program
“I enjoyed the project immensely. I am studying international development and environmental studies so to have field experience, all is it brief and armature on my part, has reaffirmed my conviction to these studies. It made me want to return to Tanzania as quickly as possible to continue work in related topics (not to mention reconnect with the powerful ties of friendship I have there).”
If you have some of these skills – We need you!

The Instituto always has some important and exciting work going on.

Please email or call me if you are available to volunteer and help us with
Digital Media needs.

It's Never Too Late To Return To School!

What are you doing the rest of your life? Whether you are a retired baby boomer or someone over 55 who has been prematurely retired due to current economic downsizing, Experience Corps has a space for you!

Experience Corps, an innovative non-profit national organization, has immediate openings for tutors and mentors in four San Rafael elementary schools. One-on-one opportunities are available to assist children with literature and math, both in the classroom or during after school sessions.

“Experience Corps puts a growing national resource, experienced Americans, to work on a pressing national need – giving all students the reading skills they need to succeed,” said Lester Strong, the program’s CEO. “There’s no shortage of older adults – nearly 10,000 Americans turn 60 every day – and no shortage of kids who need help. Half of our urban students never graduate from high school. We could be doing so much more to put these two generations together.”

Experience Corps' 'win-win' model benefits both students and tutors: a Washington University study determined that students working with Experience Corps tutors averaged over 60 percent more progress in learning in critical reading skills than similar students not served by the program; and recent Johns Hopkins University research found that Experience Corps volunteers exhibit significant benefits in cognitive abilities, physical activities, and strength; 85 percent of volunteers said their lives had improved because of their involvement with Experience Corps.

To receive an application package, email SKraemer@ncphs.org. Monthly stipends are available to Experience Corps members serving 9-plus hours per week.
