I love San Francisco more than almost anywhere else in the world. Since I recently came back no less than a week ago to the Bay Area for house-sitting, I have to say that I love the feeling of being back in the Bay. Most of the last eight years I've spent overseas working, traveling, and volunteering. Typically in between adventures abroad I've been calling Portland, Oregon home but I want to try to maxamize the amount of time that I can live in northern California by searching for house-sitting jobs around here for the next few months. Currently I'm house / doggie-sitting in Pacifica until mid-November.

I got the idea of posting my story on Craigslist looking for a housing opportunity from 2003. Back then I must admit that I was quite fortunate to find a housing opportunity to have the bottom half of a house in Hayes Valley (near city hall). It was close to MUNI connections and BART. The person who I stayed with is a lawyer and we had a lot of I.T things in common which probably owing to that we still remain friends today. He invited me to come live with him due to some minor back problems he faced where he needed a couple hours worth of work done per month.

Therefore, I'd like to offer the following services in particular in regards to house and pet-sitting. I've been a house / pet-sitter more than 30 times (both long and short house-sitting jobs ranging from 3 days to 3 months) in San Francisco and Portland and Seattle throughout the years (mostly in Portland though). I have many references from house-sitting that I can provide you. I love all animals, particularly dogs, but I've also taken care of quite a few cats, fish, birds, and gardens through the years too.

I'm a homebody so I enjoy staying at home with the pets. I always seem to have an endless array of non-paid hobbies such as writing poetry, web development, and following politics online. I always spend a lot of time playing with the pets. I take care of the home / apartment / condo / etc. and I offer 24 hours of love and support for the pets. Sometimes separate anxiety is hard on animals. Each dog or cat that I've cared for over the years has had such a unique personality! I love it.

In addition to simply loving pets and having world experiences to share... I'm friendly and easy-going, clean and responsible, respectful and I enjoy both conversation or time alone. I'd be happy to give you a call to put a voice with the words. I'm left-leaning and I love listening to Air America radio. Other times I'll tune into NPR.

I am a gay man in my 60's seeking a man 20's - 60's to accompany me for some or all of the trip I propose to take - unsure yet whether Dec 15-20 departure or Jan 3-4 departure. I intend to go down the West Coast of Mexico (likely NOT Baja, but the mainland). I am an avid birder so I will be doing that quite a bit, and I love beaches, rain forest/jungle, and generally have enjoyed the warmer climes of the area over the past 20-30 years. I have a nice slide in truck camper and a dog who will travel as well. I aim to be home by March 20th though that is always a bit open-ended ( usually BY the 20th and sometimes earlier).
I would ask some small sharing of expenses or some form of trade/barter. Help with food etc, but this is not an expensive trip. You should be a 'go with the flow' kind of person, Spanish is a plus but not essential. I rarely stay in the big RV campgrounds - often I just stop at the edge of a village with the permission of someone who lives there. I do not drive at night. I also don't like to hurry and, but for when I am getting close to home on the return, the pace is calm. I also don't do fancy resorts or fancy restaurants etc. I do expect to get to Palenque and Bonampak down along the Guatemala border and if I don't go further that will be because of time restriction or that I am traveling solo!
