You really do not need a car here, as there is so much within walking distance - the Gourmet Ghetto, UC Berkeley, fantastic shopping districts, etc. San Francisco is half an hour away, via BART. However, if you do have a car, parking is plentiful on the street. Yosemite is less than 4 hours away, and beautiful beaches are about an hour's drive. Lake Tahoe (Sierra Nevadas-great skiing) is also less than 4 hours from here. It is easy to get to our house from the San Francisco and Oakland airports via BART.
We have two very sweet cats, Ken and Skipper. They need to stay at home when we swap, but are very easy and low maintenance. |Our past swap partners have really enjoyed the cats. If you want to go away while you are staying here, they can be locked in the downstairs area with food and water for several days. We would be happy to look after a pet or two for you, however, we are not able to consider your bringing pets to our home.
The house has interior stairs, and is not child-proofed, so it is not suitable for small children.
We are flexible about timing and location (we love the beach, but are not interested in snow). I am looking for equal quality vacation home/condo, high end apartment fully furnished from Tahoe, So Cal (LA, SD, Orange county etc.), North Cal (redwood national park), or anywhere in US that you think deserve a swap. Only serious inquirers please.
In addition to being close to San Francisco, the neighborhood has a lot to offer. There are cafes, shops, farmers’ markets, and restaurants—including Mediterranean, Mexican, Ethiopian, sushi, Chinese, Thai, and Indian, to name a few. There is a Whole Foods grocery store three blocks away and two health clubs nearby. And most importantly, there is Lake Merritt (a bird sanctuary) just two blocks from the apartment where you can walk and run, picnic, sail, and row—canoeing, kayaking, and sculling. The city of Berkeley and the University of California are only a few minutes away. In the Oakland and Berkeley hills there are fabulous redwood parks with hiking trails and breathtaking views.
If you want, I would consider letting you use my car too. It is an old Saab but it would allow you to visit the beaches in Marin County, the wine country in Napa Valley, and to explore Point Reyes Peninsula. The use of my car would also allow you to see more of San Francisco than you would could possible see otherwise, unless you rented a car or took taxis. You can get to many of the most interesting and beautiful places in San Francisco from the Lake Merritt district of Oakland, where my apartment is located, faster than you can from many neighborhoods in San Francisco. Of course if you prefer, you can take a ferry boat from Oakland to San Francisco. And in terms of weather, Oakland if usually 10 degrees warmer and sunnier because it does not get the deep marine layer of fog that San Francisco does.
I would like to swap my apartment for a quiet, centrally located, one- or two-bedroom apartment in Paris. I have two primary considerations. First, I am an editor for a book publishing company and I need extremely reliable, high-speed internet in order to do my job as I will be working from your apartment. Second, I have a two-year old cat (a Chartreux) which I will be bringing with me who is ridiculously well behaved.
So, if you would like to live for a few months in the San Francisco Bay Area in exchange for your apartment in Paris, and you have high-speed internet and no objection to cats, I would love to hear from you.
