Research Programmer – Sr. Consulting Data Analyst, Data Consultant, or Sr. Data Consultant
20-40 hours per week
In this role, you will be responsible for the data management, database, data analysis, and computer application needs for research studies. You will establish and maintain data-based procedures for identifying potential study participants and for developing and managing the study research databases to track study participants and research materials, including bio-specimens, questionnaire and interview data, and study management. Duties include developing and maintaining research databases that incorporate data from disparate sources, including Kaiser Permanente electronic databases, medical charts, in-person and phone interviews, mailed questionnaires, and laboratory results from bio-specimen assays; and conducting statistical analyses to support manuscript writing and scientific presentations.
Qualifications include:
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, operations research, informatics, or related field
- Knowledge of SAS programming for data management and statistical analyses
- Familiarity with multivariate statistics and epidemiologic methodologies
- Demonstrated experience working in a health care setting and/or conducting quantitative research in a health-related field
- Familiarity with mainframe computing environments is strongly preferred
- Fluency in Access database/SQL programming for facilitating participant tracking, study management, and report generation is preferred
- Understanding of all phases of research (e.g. study design, data management and analysis, project management) is preferred
- Previous experience with epidemiologic studies involving primary data collection, including collection and processing of bio-specimens is preferred
- Experience with large clinical and administrative databases in a health care setting, especially in the Kaiser Permanente context is preferred
- Familiarity with web-based applications
- Previous research experience in cancer epidemiology
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner
- A professional manner with high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with staff, and must work effectively with other members of a research team
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment with a flexible schedule when needed
