(If you are interested, repond quickly. I am sure this will be flagged again very shortly. There will be only a small window that I will be shooting in San Francisco).
Refractions in my definition are life experiences that interact with imagination, experience, culture, promise, dream, and reality. Refractions of a Woman are photo-essays, photo-narratives, and art narratives about women. These visual-narratives are refractions of women, and are stories based on reality and imagination. These stories are blends of photographic images, design, poetry and other narratives. This style of imagery is based on story lines that we collaborate on together. This is not traditional "modeling" or making of pretty, solitary pictures. It's dynamic storytelling drawing from your experiences. Non-models, creatives of any genre, actresses and women looking to explore visual and narrative imagery are welcome (and yes, models too).
Here are the themes:
- Dances and Shadow (series on dance that will also focus on dance, light, shadows, and reflections as dancers choreograph original works that tell of their own lives)
- Image-poetry (poetry blended into photographs on a specific aspect of one's identity)
- Sweat and performance (female athletes express themselves through sport, from boxing, to acrobatics, to martial arts, to track... )
- Boobs & Buns (photography and narratives (faces need not be shown) of body sculpture and your attitude toward your body)
- Artist in their zone (artists and artisans doing what gets them juiced, frequently in autobiographical pieces)
- Bridal Boudoir (there are few things as personal as sharing your soul and your body with another)
- Girls will be girls (girls and women interacting in groups, with ages ranging from infant to elderly)
- Maternity (bellies, love, babies, and sacrifice)
- Fantasy (what imagery have you gone to bed with, lived with, and chosen to focus on. In bringing these experiences to life, what others stories may arise?)
- Marriage (couples showing chemistry of the soul)
- Tats and piercings (how is your body decoration a writing of your own story)
- A hard time (life as it has been for you)
- Aggression and Seduction (what does aggression look like in expression, body posture, and interaction? When you want to seduce, or to be seduced, what does that look like?
- Through feminine eyes (how do words (and roles) often associated with men "look" in the story of a woman?)
- Repression (If you were to write a visual autobiography, how would repression be represented in your past?)
- Coverings (coverings are a statement in identity, emotion, and expression. Coverings will range from water, to materials, to emotions)
- Buff as a baby (unconventional artistic nudes based on a story line)
- Motion (how is physical motion a part of visual storytelling and symbolic of motion through phases of thought and life?)
- Generations (visual storytelling among siblings, children, parents, grandparents, and greats)
- Light (how can light act as a character in story)
