FOUNDED IN 1996, MICROCINEMA INTERNATIONAL is a leading international rights manager, exhibitor, and specialty markets distributor of the "moving image arts." Microcinema International specializes in the acquisition, exhibition, and distribution of independently produced works of an artistic and socially-relevant nature. Microcinema International DVD is a unique and diverse catalogue of international DVD titles that are distributed worldwide to small boutique retail outlets to major national retail chains. New delivery platforms such as mobile TV, video on demand, podcasting, and mobile telephony are also used to reach new audiences and new venues. “Independent Exposure,” a short film exhibition screening series begun in 1996 is booked at venues throughout the world and will need to be managed and maintained as part of the company’s ongoing distribution through exhibition efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The Business Manager reports to the President and acts essentially as his chief assistant, while coordinating his Sales (DVD, TV, VOD, and non-theatrical), Marketing and Acquisitions duties, and strategies. Microcinema is a small company and fosters a “whatever it takes to get the job done through teamwork” office culture that is relatively free from hierarchy. The Business Manager will have an opportunity for taking on challenging tasks and learning the business, while also offering valuable insight into how to mainstream the current business, this making it even more efficient. The Business Manager will also be expected to understand clerical and general office tasks associated with the business, and will be expected to problem-solve and expedite solutions. The Business Manager is expected to gain an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the business operations; suggest improvements; develop and maintain new systems while integrating current ones; manage and maintain Production schedules, inter-office affairs and sometimes act as client liaison for the President of the company. The candidate for this position should be a true self-starter, independent thinker, and problem solver who can take responsibility for their workload, interact with and learn from others in the company, and follow instructions from superiors in a professional fashion and with timely results.
KEY DUTIES:
Assist the President with Sales, Marketing, and Acquisitions duties and strategies.
Streamline and manage DVD Production operations.
Office Management
Streamline fulfillment/shipping operations.
Streamline Exhibition operations.
Assist with contract management.
Customer Service
Be ready for any assignment, at any time, with short lead time and imminent deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• College Degree – business oriented degree preferred.
• Interest in the business side of film and video a must!
• Attention to detail; highly-organized and self-motivated
• Knowledge of small business operations
• Ability to work independently and multi-task and deliver results on time.
• Working knowledge of PC-based programs absolutely essential (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.). Capable of learning other programs including databases, order entry, fulfillment and shipping software.
• Some HTML programming experience helpful
• Strong communication (written and verbal) skills and ability to work well with others
