Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center’s mission is to educate, support, empower, and advocate for A&PI communities – particularly A&PIs living with, or at risk for, HIV/AIDS. Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center is the oldest and most comprehensive nonprofit organization in North America targeting A&PI communities around sexual health and HIV. Staff are fluent in 18 languages and offer programs ranging from health promotion to direct care services, from community-based research to statewide and national training.
Position Description:
Provide support and guidance to apply best practices on HR issues including but not limited to benefits/leaves, staffing, employee relations, training, HR services and programs, performance management and corrective actions. Supervises operations and volunteer activities. Acts as HR point of contact for staff and supervisors.
Major Responsibilities:
• Manages benefits including benefits package, conducts benefits orientations, manages annual open enrollment, benefits communication, prepares reports, monthly premium payments and recommends benefits modification.
• Administers Leaves of Absence, Workers’ Compensation, SDI, etc. Manages and administers the staffing process, which includes but is not limited to: needs assessment, ad posting, resumes evaluation, interviews, reference checks and job offers. Administers RAP (spell this out). Revises and creates job descriptions and coaches supervisors on writing them.
• Provides support to staff on Goal Setting (RAM – spell out), Mid-yr Performance Review and Performance Evaluation processes.
• Manages the new hires orientation process and exit interview processes as it relates to HR. Oversees the operational part of these processes.
• Maintains personnel files and staff database (ADP-HRB). Ensures accurate and timely processing of employee status changes.
• Supports the Director of HR with the revision of the Employee Handbook and HR Policies and Procedures. Provide HR policies interpretation and guidance to staff. Stays current on HR laws.
• Coordinates staff training and development activities, including A&PI Academy.
• Ensures appropriate level of operations and volunteer services.
• Manages Agency Staff Retreat planning efforts and support agency-wide events.
• Hires, supervises, motivates, and develops a staff team that is responsible for facilities/safety/operations management as well as volunteer program and reception functions.
• Promotes an organizational culture that values open communication, team building, cross-functional activities, diversity and culturally appropriate conflict resolution.• Performs other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, providing support to the Director of HR.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate Degree or HR Certificate and two years experience in Human Resources at an exempt level with emphasis in recruitment and benefits.
• Excellent communication, project management and interpersonal skills
• 3-5 years of supervision experience in a diverse workplace
•Solid knowledge in the legal aspects of Human Resources
• Attention to detail and ability to take initiative to improve HR processes.
• Experience handling risk management issues, conducting investigations and making recommendations
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
PHR Certification strongly preferred
• Experience developing, implementing and enforcing policies, procedures and programs
• Experience designing and implementing HR programs
• Familiarity with Asian or Pacific Islander languages/cultures or bi/multi-lingual/cultural settings.
