The Medical Supervisor will act as the professional medical and industrial hygiene expert at the shipyard. This includes promoting workers safety, managing injuries and illnesses that return workers to their duties in a caring, legal and efficient manner, providing first aid treatment and communicating with any doctors or clinics treating our employees, and maintaining all necessary records and processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide advanced first aid treatment with diagnosis and treatment plan for minor injuries/illnesses and initiate documentation.
Conducts all follow-up wound checks, bandage changes, strains and muscle injuries and illnesses for workers. Is primary in coordinating physical therapy appointments and doctor follow-up visits with employees.
Determines if a doctor is required and assess if a specialist is needed for complex injuries/illnesses. Stays in constant contact with any doctors treating our employees.
Gathers information to help determine questionable injuries/illnesses. Presents information to medical and/or insurance professionals.
Conduct urine drug and alcohol screens on pre-placement, random, “for cause”, and post-accident tests.
Maintain up to-date and complete medical records, including verification, for all pre-placement and employee medical records.
Provides emergency care/response throughout facility.
Performs all audiometric testing and respirator fit tests for employees to comply with OSHA mandates.
Accurately maintain the site OSHA 300/301 Log providing input to corporate as required.
Assemble and analyze medical incident data and routinely provide statistical information as requested.
Investigate medical incidents, including photography, research, witness interviews and preparation of written reports and corrective action.
Author, implement, revise and monitor medical and health related policies and procedures to minimize medical injuries/illnesses. Share and use Best Practices with/from other company sites.
Provide training to others on medical related areas, including programs to minimize injuries/illnesses.
Perform similar, incidental, and other duties as assigned.
Licensed emergency medical technician by the State of California, CPR certification, audiometric certification, and minimum 4 experience years in occupational medicine in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Basic proficiency with MS Office for data collection, analysis, writing and reporting
Able to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to work with and understand employees for whom English is a second language.
Needs to be highly motivated, organized, results-driven self-starter with an ability to work issues across a multi-layered organization in a team approach.
