DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION
ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Equality Federation is the national alliance of state equality groups, working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans by building strong and sustainable statewide advocacy organizations in a state-based movement. We are incorporated as two distinct legal entities, a 501(c)(3) educational and training non-profit and a 501(c)(4) political advocacy organization. We provide technology, training, executive coaching and consulting services to state equality groups. We also advocate for national equality strategies that incorporate state strategies for equality. Equality Federation and Equality Federation Institute have a combined annual budget of $1 million with six full-time staff positions.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Equality Federation is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Finance and Administration to provide strategic leadership while building and managing the day to day financial and administrative systems needed to support the growth of our organizations. The Director of Finance and Administration will report to the Executive Director and participate as a member of the senior leadership team, working closely with all staff to ensure effective implementation of all internal controls and budgeting processes. In addition to providing financial management and oversight to our traditional 501(c)(3) budget and funding structures, the Director will implement a business model for all 501(c)(4) operations, growing our fee-for-service model to fully support the work of the (c)(4). This is a position with high growth potential that requires strong accounting, financial management and analytical skills as well as exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with varied constituents.
This is a full-time, senior management position. Annual salary is $70,000 with potential for fast growth. Benefits include medical, dental, & vision insurance including a health savings account option. Retirement plan available with no employer match at this time. The position is located in the Mission District in San Francisco with easy access to BART.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance
Draft annual budgets for both organizations with input from all senior staff
Ensure distinct financial and legal operation for each legal entity
Ensure legal compliance with state and federal regulations for non-profit organizations, including preparation of annual 990 tax forms
Manage implementation of the cost-sharing agreement between the 501c3 and 501c4
Develop and implement business model for expanding fee-for services programs to provide all income necessary to support 501c4 work
Invoice member organizations and collect membership dues and service fees for the 501(c)4 organization
Track and manage cash flow for both organizations, including preparation of quarterly budget forecasts and reporting
Maintain all financial records in QuickBooks, including tracking all accounts payable and receivable
Work with staff to refine existing chart of accounts, department codes and program classes in QuickBooks to most effectively track the cost of our work
Train staff on budget process and procedures; develop new procedures as needed
Develop relationships with state equality group staff and/or board members, providing support and advice regarding best financial practices for non-profit organizations
Provide a variety of financial reports for the executive director, board of directors, and grantors as needed
Administration
Administer employee benefits and manage organizations human resources needs
Manage outside IT and organizational consultants and vendor relationships
Manage the office & ongoing operations needs, including the premises, equipment, and supply needs
Manage general email accounts and e-lists
Maintain organizational records and directories
Implement organizational policies as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Committed to the mission and philosophy of Equality Federation
Bachelors degree required; prefer advanced degree in finance, business or nonprofit administration, or related field
3+ years experience in accounting and financial management, with a strong preference for candidates who have both non-profit and for-profit financial management experience
Working knowledge of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) non-profit corporations
Proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office programs
Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of staff and board members
