- Conduct field interviews and write detailed reports according to Western Limited’s standards and professional code of conduct.
- Communicate weekly with Statement Department manager on progress on interviews and reports.
- Edit reports and conduct follow-up investigations based on direction from Statement Department manager.
Required skills and experience:
- Excellent writing and editing skills, as documented by extensive and substantial writing experience.
- Very organized, flexible, and detail oriented.
Other requirements:
- Must have valid California driver’s license and own or have access to a dependable vehicle for work-related travel.
- Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products, especially Word.
- Must own and be able to operate a laptop computer, a digital camera, and a digital recorder.
Please note that this is not a creative writing position. The interviews and the statements are conducted according to a fairly restrictive format. Regular accessibility by phone and e-mail is an absolute must. Although not required, we do solicit bi-lingual candidates, especially English-Spanish.
Compensation is $11 per hour during training, then $350 per report plus mileage. For a new investigator this works out to about $20 per hour. Most interviews will be conducted within 1-2 hours driving of Santa Cruz, but overnight trips, primarily to Southern California, may be required from time to time.
