The Firelight Foundation (www.firelightfoundation.org) is a private, family foundation based in Santa Cruz, California. <br>
The mission of the Firelight Foundation is to support and advocate for the needs and rights of children who are orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. <br>
Firelight provides grants between $1,000-15,000 to community-based organizations that support families and communities to meet the material, educational, and psychosocial needs of children. Firelight provides grants that support local initiatives and leadership and strengthen the community’s capacity to address its own needs. To date, Firelight has made more than 800 grants totaling nearly $11 million to organizations serving children in Sub-Saharan Africa. <br>
<br>
Purpose<br>
The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for managing Firelight’s technology infrastructure, including configuration, implementation, upgrading, and maintenance of the computing and telecommunication infrastructure.  The IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of Macintosh desktop and laptop computers, servers, network equipment, software applications and databases, and the phone system.<br>
In addition, the IT Systems Engineer will adapt and improve the architecture, programming, and operation of Firelight’s integrated database platform.<br>
The IT Systems Engineer will also assess, identify, and recommend appropriate systems and Internet/Web 2.0 solutions, and facilitate the integration of information technology systems. <br>

Relationships<br>
The IT Systems Engineer reports directly to the Executive Director; works closely with department heads, especially on larger systems projects; and serves all employees of the foundation and select visiting guests. <br>
In the course of performing his/her duties, the IT Systems Engineer will promote a positive work environment by maintaining respectful and professional, customer-service oriented interactions with all staff.<br>
<br>
Duties and Responsibilities<br>
•	Maintains computing environment by identifying systems requirements, purchasing and installing upgrades, and monitoring systems performance. <br>
•	Evaluates user needs and system functionality to support effectiveness and efficiency.<br>
•	Applies software engineering principles to Firelight’s integrated database platform, including developing new features, improving and extending the current architecture, and increasing staff  efficiency through automation.<br>
•	Leads the planning and implements the selection, design, integration, installation, configuration, and testing of Macintosh computers, servers, network equipment, software applications, and Internet/Web 2.0 solutions. Conducts comparative analysis and competitive bidding when necessary.<br>
•	Develops, documents, maintains, and monitors procedures for data backup and security, and other operational policies and procedures.<br>
•	Upgrades system by conferring with vendors and service providers, developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.<br>
•	Manages administration of software licenses and renewals, and monitors, plans, and coordinates the distribution of software updates.<br>
•	Performs timely on-site and remote technical support, troubleshooting all hardware, software, networks, database, and operating and system management systems problems.<br>
•	Organizes and maintains inventory of all hardware and software resources.<br>
•	Monitors and maintains the use of the foundation’s equipment, including photocopiers, printers, cameras, digital recorders, and projectors.<br>
<br>
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Required Abilities<br>
Education and Experience: BA or BS degree is required. Two or more years of systems and networking experience using the Mac OS X client/server platforms is required. Additional relational database experience, preferably with FileMaker, is required.<br>
 Knowledge: Understands how to monitor, configure, and diagnose the standard UNIX suite of system daemons (postfix, apache, DNS, DHCP, SSH, CUPS and OpenLDAP), as well as the FileMaker database server.  Knows the Perl or Python scripting language, and TCP/IP Protocols, including IPSEC based virtual private networks. Internet solution/Web 2.0-literate.<br>

Compensation<br>
This is a 30- to 40-hour per week position. <br>

JOB SUMMARY: Consistent with Driscoll’s Mission and Vision, the Director of Network Operations Services is responsible for managing all enterprise-wide computer network resources and supports all technology initiatives derived from the Driscoll’s Strategic Plan. These responsibilities include - but are not limited to - managing a team of Site Support and Network Engineering technicians to ensure consistent and secure selection, configuration, and maintenance of Driscoll’s computer network and server infrastructures in all remote locations as well as, the Driscoll’s Data Center and hot-site for Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery. <br>

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: <br>
• Communicating technical requirements clearly and directly <br>
• Managing vendors and direct consultants <br>
• Providing core architectural strategies for all network computer services, and support converged Voice, teleconferencing and increasing data transmission needs across the international enterprise. <br>
• Developing, modeling and maintaining all technical operating standards and processes for Network Engineers and System Administrators. <br>
• Managing a large capital budget <br>
• Modeling and mentoring good documentation and SOP discipline. <br>
• Designing and implementing security processes and procedures and performing cost benefit analysis on all recommended technology strategies and systems <br>
• Collaborating with external auditors to conduct in-depth compliance audits and penetration testing, presenting all results to senior management <br>
• Creating and executing Information Technology business continuance and disaster recovery plans <br>

Individual must partner with the Application Development team to implement business applications that are secure and highly reliable. Networking experience should include DNS, Router/Switch/Firewall configuration, Network Storage, Group Policy configuration for Windows Active Directory, Exchange 2003/2007, secure wireless Access Point configuration and deployment. Virtualization is becoming core to the Driscoll’s infrastructure, so experience in this area would be a plus. <br>

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: <br>
Minimum of BS in computer-related field of study with ten years of work experience as a Windows system administrator or supporting complex computer networks. Masters Degree preferred. <br>
A solid grasp of enterprise-wide network architecture for both data and voice is required. <br>
