It also supports the research and teaching efforts of the director, Professor David Haussler, which includes approximately 50 staff, postdocs, and students involved in the UCSC Genome Browser and other projects which are supported by funds from the federal and state governments and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). <br>
<br>
Specifically, the incumbent works with staff to meet programmatic, financial, and reporting timelines and the scientific and logistic goals for the following projects: the UCSC Center for Genomic Science, the UCSC ENCODE Data Coordination Center, and the UCSC branch of the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences. The manager works with scientific lead staff and directors to ensure that personnel, supplies, space, equipment, and reporting needs of the projects are met. This position has the potential to expand to additional projects, including research awards, program grants, training programs, facilities and equipment awards, events, and special projects as needed and as funding allows.<br>

<p>The primary responsibility of the Accounting/Office Assistant is to provide administrative support to the accounting team and Controller.


<p>Duties and Responsibilities:
<li>    File all accounting documentation.
<li>    Process initial reconciliation of purchase orders, receiving slips and invoices.
<li>    Process and distribute all mail on a daily basis.
<li>    First line of communication for all vendor inquiries via phone, fax and/or email. Responsible for investigating vendor inquiries.
<li>    Work with shared services located in Minneapolis to process payments locate back-up documentation, distribute for authorizing signatures and research errors and/or issues.
<li>    Data entry of warehouse and freight invoices into accounting system.
<li>    Provide support to other deaprtments as needed.
<li>    Assist with other office projects as needed.

<p>Requirements:
<li>    Excellent communication skills  must have the ability to communicate professionally (via phone, email and/or fax) with vendors and other external/internal inquiries.
<li>    Technical skills  must have proven experience using MS Office Suite (especially Excel) for various data entry projects. Should have the ability to learn other software quickly. Able to type 50 WPM accurately. Experience with Oracle a plus.
<li>    Detail orientated  must pay close attention to details when filling accounting documents and completing various data entry.
<li>    Organized  must be very organized and able to multi-task different projects constantly.

<p>Experience/Education:
<li>    Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and at least 1-2 years experience assisting in an office/accounting support setting or the equivalent combination of education and  experience.
<li>    Must have proven intermediate level experience using software applications, such as: Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with Oracle a plus.
