In the United States, a woman is raped every 6 minutes; a woman is battered every 15 seconds. Rape of women is widespread in armed conflicts such as Colombia and Darfur.

The experience or threat of violence affects the lives of women everywhere, cutting across boundaries of wealth, race and culture. In the home and in the community, in times of war and peace, women are beaten, raped, mutilated, and killed with impunity.

Founded in 1961, Amnesty International has campaigned successfully in recent years for the International Criminal Court and a UN Torture Treaty. Through our research and action, governments have been persuaded to stop human rights violations and change their laws and practices.

Grassroots Campaigns, Inc. has worked with a wide array of organizations,including the Democratic National Committee, MoveON PAC, Amnesty International, Save the Children, the Sierra Club, and Environmental Action.
