Senior C developer for Apache and UNIX (saratoga)

We are a small startup with a huge market opportunity seeking experienced developers. We operate in the “cloud computing” and environmental “sustainability” markets with a product that allows for improved datacenter cost and energy efficiency. Our strong value proposition resonates especially well in the current tough economic climate and we even have a Harvard Business School case study published about our solution and the savings that can be achieved.

If you enjoy the startup environment and want to join a strong dynamic team, this is an awesome opportunity to get in on the ground floor. As we have not yet secured customers or funding we are not yet in a position to pay salary and this is an equity-only position (i.e. no cash compensation or health benefits, but with an attractive stock option package). Obviously, we do expect that to change in the future.

We’re seeking a highly experienced developer who can independently be responsible for development and architecture of key aspects of our product. This is a high visibility position and this person will be a key member of our core development team. Most of the work will be done from home utilizing Skype and web meetings for our day to day business. When we get together we meet in our Saratoga location.

To be successful for this specific role you should:
* Be an experienced C or C++ developer who can independently create new software components and scripts from scratch without the need for detail management
* Have no problems to independently install and configure an Apache web server
* Have prior experience that allows you to independently write and modify cgi-scripts for an application UI
* Have very deep Unix skills, demonstrated experience with development using low level systems calls/API’s for several Unix flavors such as AIX, HPUX or Solaris
* Have no problems to independently re-install a new Unix operating system or making OS configuration changes or to select and install different compilers or debuggers
* Be able to work independently in a small team where you must do all the technology and software installations yourself

Make sure to include a description of your Apache as well as Unix API/system call level development experience in your application or your application will not be considered.

More details about the company and our backgrounds will be provided after signing an NDA.

Location: Saratoga, CA

Must have requirements:
* Demonstrated C/C++ programming experience
* Demonstrated development with Apache
* Deep Unix development experience on multiple Unix platforms and versions (If you only know Linux this is not enough for this position)
* Demonstrated experience developing using low level systems calls/API’s for several Unix flavors such as AIX, HPUX or Solaris
* Understand standard design patterns and software development methodologies
* MS and 6 years or BS and 8 years experience
* Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
* Track record of strong individual accomplishments, excellent programming skills, and an exceptional academic background
* Disciplined, organized and work independently
* 5+ years designing, developing, testing, and shipping software as part of a software development team
* We cannot sponsor work visas. Must be US permanent resident or US citizen

Good to have:
* Experience developing IT systems management applications
* Experience developing in and for virtualized and/or partitioned environments such as VMware or Solaris Zones or AIX LPAR
* Java
* SQL

Technologies & Platforms:
* C, C++
* Java
* Web Services
* MySQL
* Oracle
* VMware APIs
* Virtualization/partitioning: VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix Xen, Parallels, Solaris Zones, AIX LPAR
* OS’s: Windows, Linux, Solaris, HPUX, AIX

I need a highly skilled person who can essentially run my (Cabinet) shop when I am out on calls. You will need to be skilled in all types of woodworking, from making high end cabinets, to producing 1000's of the same component over and over again. You will need to be able to manage other workers entrusted to your care, in a professional and courteous manner, and still achieve a high standard of production. You also need to be a bit of a mechanic, as tools break down at times, or something needs adjusting, etc. You need to have a very good understanding of how to set up and adjust tools like shapers, table saws, vertical panel saws, edge banders, etc. We have one customer in particular that orders 1000's of the same part, so you will need to have a good handle on customer relations in order to deal with our customers effectively, while at the same time, protecting the business's interests. The compensation will reflect current economic and market conditions, however, there is room for growth and bonuses in the future. Resumes accepted will be thoroughly followed up on. All Resumes must have a complete history. You must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. This position will not be a "regular employee" position, but instead, you will be self employed. I want you to help us grow into this developing product we are now producing. We expect this product to drive our business into the 6-10 mil per year category. This is a small beginning, but if you put your hand to the plow, it will certainly be rewarded.

Please do not call, or "drop by the shop". All resumes must be emailed.
