It is California Community Opportunities' goal to provide positive, safe, progressive, and attractive community homes and services for individuals with developmental disabilities transitioning from Agnews Development Center as part of its planned closure.
Teaching Counselors serve a caseload of 3 men and women in a relaxed residential setting, assisting them with all aspects of their daily lives, which includes community inclusion and mainstreaming, life skill and behavioral programs, self advocacy and more. We are looking to hire caring, dedicated individuals with good work ethics.
CCO has s several immediate Part Time & Full Time openings. Our current open positions include the following shifts:
-Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7am – 8pm
-Friday, Saturday, Sunday 9pm -7am
-On-call Substitute Teaching Counselors who will be scheduled based on their availability each week.

Responsibilities:
- Teach skills and behaviors to maximize independence in activities of daily living for a small caseload of persons who have severe developmental disabilities and other special needs.
- Providing support to the Family Teachers for the smooth operation of the home by performing tasks/duties as assigned, documenting care provided, behavior management and teaching techniques implemented, timely completion of records, checklists, reports, graphs and schedules.
- Perform household cleaning tasks
- Basic cooking and an ability to follow menus and recipes
- Handle all aspects of personal care with sensitivity and caring
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- At least 1 year of prior experience in a position of similar scope, preferred or a student studying a related field
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted
- Knowledge of and ability to perform emergency physical interaction techniques (which include lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, blocking, grabbing), preferred
- Knowledge of Family Teaching Model components and techniques, preferred
- The ability to recognize natural teaching opportunities and act upon them
- The ability to allay maladaptive (sometimes aggressive) behaviors while maintaining calm and composure
- The ability to communicate in English through verbal and written mediums
- The ability to observe, ask questions, listen actively, and give and accept feedback effectively
- A high energy level, adaptability, assertiveness, patience and ability to work in a team environment
- Proof of valid drivers license, an ability to maintain automobile liability insurance as required by state law in California and an ability to qualify as a driver under CCO insurance guidelines if the employee operates a motor vehicle while carrying out job responsibilities.
-Employment shall be contingent upon the results of fingerprint clearance, TB test and Drug Test.
