The City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs has identified a variety of opportunities for a consultant to work with the Public Art Program in collaboration with other San Jose arts organizations to coordinate the installation of the artworks.

In December 2009, the Office of Cultural Affairs will commission up to six artists to create temporary artwork installations on San Fernando Street. The target date for installation of the projects is June 2010. The artwork will be on display through October 2010. The City of San Jose requires the professional assistance of a public art consultant to provide the following services according to the direction of the Public Art Director:

• The consultant will work collaboratively with artists and their representatives to coordinate the satisfactory fabrication and installation and removal of the artworks.

• The consultant will work collaboratively with the Public Art Director to ensure that stakeholders are informed of the progress of project installation as it occurs.

• The consultant will take responsibility for related tasks as assigned by the Public Art Director.

Candidates for public art consultant must have a demonstrated history of working with artists in a curatorial or construction management capacity on the installation of permanent or temporary artworks in a variety of media in an outside, unsupervised, publicly accessible setting. Candidates must have knowledge of construction techniques, permitting requirements and must have good problem-solving and communications skills.

The term of this agreement will be from December 20, 2009 through November 15, 2010.
