Fiona is a 3 month old short-haired classic tabby girl seeking a home.

She and her brother were orphaned when about 2 weeks old and bottle-fed. They rapidly turned into healthy and happy and well-socialized little charmers. Her brother has been adopted - she is still waiting.

She is FeLV/FIV negative, started on her kitten vaccines, and spayed/neutered. She is very affectionate, loves to play, and loves to cuddle - and especially enjoys curling up right next to her foster mother in bed at night. She gets along well with other kittens and cats once she gets to know them and tolerates dogs well.

($70 adoption fee requested as a gesture of committment and to help compensate for medical expenses)

For anyone who honestly believes all of these rescues are trying to make a profit you are out of your mind. There may be a few bad seeds out there as there is with anything, but for the few bad seeds there are a TON of legitimate rescues who's adoption fees go into the care of all of these animals. And let me say this IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ADOPTION FEE THROUGH A RESCUE THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE ADOPTING A PET!!!!! There is a lot of expense that goes into have a pet, they become a part of the family not just some object of entertainment whenever you so please. I have 4 cats, 1 rabbit, and 1 cat that I am fostering that I rescued extremely malnourished and have been working with a local rescue to re-habilitate into a healthy cat that is adoptable to a family willing to take in an 8 to 9 year old cat. I spent anywhere from $150 to $200 in food and supplies for the 4 cats and 1 rabbit that I have because I refuse to feed them anything but quality grain free food, even if you buy a cheap food you are looking at monthly costs of $50 to $100 a month to care for a cat or dog. Don't forget you have to buy cat litter, toys, etc... plus any vet visits that may come up. So let me reiterate IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ADOPTION FEE THROUGH A RESCUE THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE ADOPTING A PET!!!! It kills me that people complain about paying an adoption fee and are so ignorant to think that these rescues have it so easy when it comes to expenses, an adoption fee is the LEAST you can do for these rescues who put their time, heart, and soul into rescuing and taking care of these animals so that they can have a chance to be adopted into a loving, forever home with someone who will care for them and treat them like family for the rest of their lives!!!

This handsome cat needs a new home! I believe this is a neutered male and that he has been lost from his original home for many weeks. I have befriended him and am now caring for him until he finds a new home. He seems very young, maybe a year or two old. He has black & brown tiger markings w/ white chest, belly and paws, and green eyes. He wants affection and he LOVES to be petted! He is not yet a lap cat, but with patience and affection it's obvious he'll overcome his understandable skitterishness and learn to trust you as he is doing with me. He is a very good ratter (presenting me with 2 in 2 weeks!). He keeps himself immaculately clean and doesn't fight with any of the neighbor cats. He's happiest staying outside, but I feed him indoors to also get him used to being comfortable inside. When he's indoors, with no outside distractions, he shows how affectionate he can be. He deserves to have a good home. We both thank you for your interest.

JET - 1 yr. old 40lbs. lab/staffie Jet was surrendered because her family didn't have enough time for her. She's an energetic and friendly girl that already knows some commands and is housetrained. She loves toys and does well with her kennelmate at the shelter. Jet is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations.

DOT & DASH - 5 mo. black lab sisters. These two darling puppies are friendly and playful and so hopeful that they will find a wonderful home that will raise them and love them (they can be adopted separately).

KARMIN - 1 yr. 41lbs. pitt bull Karmin is afraid in the shelter, but once outside relaxes and shows off her lovely self. She's friendly and playful and walks well on leash. She's such a pretty girl and will really blossom with some love and care.

Leni is a Dalmation mixed with pit bull, and is about 8 months old. He weighs around 40 pounds is almost full grown. He is expected to get no more than 50 pounds. He usually plays well with other dogs, but needs to be the only dog in his home as he doesn't like to share. He is very sweet and cuddly, very well behaved for the most part. He knows Come, sit, stay, and walks beautifully on a leash. He enjoys getting some excercise, but is also very couch potatoe, and will literally lay in your lap for hours if you let him. He will not be a dog that needs to run miles and miles every day to get their energy out. He doesnt nuisance bark, but does well at alerting you to the presence of strangers at your door step. He does get a bit sunburnt when in the sun for long periods of time, and you can use 50 SPF no tears sunscreen on him if you plan to take him hiking or camping or something to keep him from getting too much sun. He would do well in a house with children, as he is very laid back and will let you do just about anything to him....even dress him up in clothes with sunglasses! He may be trainable with cats, if given time and training with a proper introduction. Leni is not a dog that would do well at a dog park, as there is too much excitement for him there and he can get too worked up- but he would love smaller playdates with one or two other dogs! Come take a look at these beautiful green eyes and you will fall in love for sure.

Colleen is a darling girl that weighs 60 pounds. She is full grown, and about 1.5 years old. She is fixed, microchipped, UTD on shots, has been dewormed and deflead. She gets along excellent with dogs of all sizes and temperaments....to the point that I have never seen her involve herself in a scuffle if other dogs are having a disagreement. We believe she is a Kelpie mixed with smooth coated collie. She is very sweet and playful, and loves to give kisses. She knows sit, come and off, and is highly trainable. She would love a home with kids above the age of toddler...she is playful enough where she might accidentally knock over a toddler. She has shown interest in cats but no agression, and we feel she can be placed with a cat at her home with the proper introduction. Free to a good home.... 1 year old female terrier mix needs a kind loving home. Very cute mixed mutt...appears to be a mix between a rat terrier and poddle??She doesn't shed much. I've had her for about 4 months, but a neighbor who can't seem to mind her own business is causing problems, and threatening to make my life a living hell if I don't get rid of my doggie. (I'd much rather get rid of the neighbor, but moving and telling the neighbor to shut up is not an option right now.) The dog is really good with kids, and gets her butt kicked daily by the cat.
I've been crating her while I'm not home, and I take her outside. She is still learning not to go in the house, but it would be much easier if she had a real yard to go in. She is microchipped and spayed. She has had all her shots. She has a great personality, and would really love a great home besides mine. Kingsley is a Papillon mix boy, to our best guess, of about 2 years old. He is fixed, UTD on shots, deflead and dewormed. His adoption fee is $100. He is very energetic and playful, and bonds deeply to his caretakers. He loves to be carried around and to sit in laps, and bounces off the walls when he is excited. He is potty trained, not destructive in the house. Kingsley does well with cats, and can do fine with small dogs, but CAN NOT go to a home with a large dog in it. Large dogs scare him, and when he is scared he barks at them...which in turn makes the other dog nervous. He would do best in a home with no kids under the age of 8. The SCAMMERS will tell you that included in your re-homing fee is spay/neuter and shots, while in REALITY the animals had received these services from where ever the alleged "rescuer" got the dog. They may even go on to tell you that they have to recover the costs of rescuing the dog and caring for the dog, but if this truely is the case, then they should be considered a dog kennel, in which case strict rules and regulations would apply that they most likely do not meet. Some of these people actually con the shelters into waving or reducing fees, taking money away from the shelter and putting it right into their own pocket.

Shelter fees are usually between $60-$100 for a dog, and this is usually the case across the board. No special exceptions are made for purebred dogs or dogs with a high likelihood of being adopted out; the rescue is looking out for the best interest of the animals, and wants to make it financially possible for these dogs to find their forever homes. So, in a nutshell, these people, under the GUISE of being a friend to animals, make a $200-$400 profit for each dog they obtain from the shelter or other adoption means - CL, local classifieds, etc. Do that a couple times a week and you can give up your day job!

Be careful of these people posing as rescuers when checking out an adoptable dog outside of a well-known animal shelter. Ask detailed questions, ask about their non-profit status, ask details about the animal - it�s origin, temperament, how long it has been with them, and be sure to visit the dog in person before agreeing to any money being exchanged. Be aware that non profits are not allowed to charge fees, but they may ask for voluntary donations. Ask for a discount, if the person is in it for the money you can often tell by the tone of their voice when you ask for a discount. If they reply with, �I have laid out so money to save the dog and want to recover my expenses� ask for receipts and proof before continuing with the adoption.
There is another class of rescuers/rescue organizations who are equally harmful to animals, they are the ones who ask invasive questions or demand inappropriate access to your life in order to adopt the animal. There is a fine line between inspecting someone�s home to be sure that the dog will be placed in a safe environment and asking for 10 letters of recommendation, a contract signed with blood, and the threat that they can take your dog back at any time. A well-publicized case of this sort of incident is what happened to Ellen Degeneres� rescued dog. If you pay for a dog it�s yours, irregardless of what they say or make you sign. Target can�t come take back that TV you bought last year if they don�t approve of the adult channels you subscribe to, and the simple truth is, that same principal applies to dogs. Target also has no say about that TV if you decide to give it away later on.

I have heard of flipping houses, but flipping dogs? It is just inhumane any way you look at it. I think selling dogs should be prohibited, even if it�s called rehoming fee or not, it all just comes down to semantics in the end; this practice needs to be banned. There are thousands of dogs who need homes and charging for dogs just makes it all the worse, actually preventing many animals from being placed with loving owners.

Mau is a Flame Point Siamese Mix rescued from a high kill shelter in Lake County, along with 11 other cats and kittens,all at risk of euthanasia because of serious overcrowding at the shelter. Rollie is 3 year old rough coated collie mix. You would never guess he is three, since he very much still looks like a puppy. Just look at that sweet, innocent face. Rollie is a huge lover who can't get enough of hanging out on his peoples' laps. He is quickly learning his basic commands and seems to be potty trained. He loves to run and play outside and has been getting along great with the other pups. He is a sweet, very laid back, snuggly dog who would fit in anywhere and seems to love everyone he comes in contact with. His current foster mom is going out of town, and he will need another foster. We provide crate, collar, leash, and cover necessary vet costs, and ask foster parents to provide food during the foster period. Please let me know if you are interested in fostering this pup! Meet MiuMiu, a beautiful Snowshoe - Lynx Pint Mix. Her short fur is incredibly soft, dense. Her eyes are light blue with pale yellow outer rings. She is very affectionate, coquettish, loves to play and will purr and purr (even when we trim her nails). MiuMiu has a tiny little voice and lets us know she wants company. Her extimated DOB is 07.01.09.

Tina (top picture) is a chihuahua-wiry fox terrier mix with who knows what else. She is like no dog you will ever see! She loves hanging with people and dogs! She is super mellow, calm and absolutely loves to smooch everyone! She is low-maintenance/low energy and independent. Spent most of her time playing and snuggling on the couch, definitely a couch potato. She weighs 6 pounds and is believed to be 1 year old. She would love to ride in your car and hang on your laps. She would be better in a home with another dog as she loves company. She does wonderful with all people she has been introduced to and even other dogs as well, although a home with grown children would be better.

Benji (bottom picture) is a jack russell terrier/chihuahua/chinese crested mix or as it appears. He is full of love and when shown some affection instantly becomes your side magnet. He is a whole 10 pounds of velcro dog! He loves company of anyone whether they be dogs, women, or men. He continuously tries to get attention and affection. He is a low maintenance guy who doesn't care where he sleeps as long as he can keep an eye on you! He is potty trained.

Parents aren't allowed to abandon their children whenever they choose why are we allowed to abandon our loyal friends because of the economy, situations. they are faithful with love, smiles, and tail wags to brighten our gloomy time away from them when we open the door from a long day. Why are we so selfish when times get tough because our animals have no spoken english?

The Oakland Animal Shelter currently has many rabbits waiting for someone with whom they can start a glorious, new life!

The adoption fee for a rabbit already neutered/spayed and micro-chipped is only $35. All of our rabbits have been fixed unless noted.

A rabbit that you wish to adopt that is not fixed (indicated by an (x) next to their name below) will be scheduled for surgery at a local clinic where you will pick him/her up and pay to the clinic $85.

We highly recommend meeting a pair of bunnies already bonded. They will keep each other company when you are away during the day.

Please bring all immediate family members living in your household to meet the bunnies and your driver's license upon adopting.

Parsley and Cecily were part of a litter of seven rescued when they were one week old and had been seperated from their mom cat. Bottle fed, and later reunited with their mom, they grew and flourished. These "miracle babies" are now ready for their new forever homes. They are sweet, loving, purring, bundles of joy and will bring lots of love and laughter into any home. They are currently being fostered in Healdsburg. Their estimated DOB is .08.24.09.

If a group is actually making a profit rescuing then rehoming animals please come forward. It takes just a few animals with special health problems to cost a group thousands of dollars. They are also very difficult to adopt out and so are the plain looking or ones with behavior problems that stay in your foster homes for years taking up space and rescources. Probably thirty percent or more of animals in groups and shelters fit into this category. Once you have s/n, vaccinated, tested, dewormed, deflead, bought food for that animal, the adoption fee rarely covers what you have spent on that animal, even if it is already fixed. You would have to adopt it out right away and hardly spent anything on vet care. Groups and shelters are slashing adoption fees which means they are having even less money to pay for things.

If you've ever done rescue you know how easy it is get in over your head financially. It is absurd to think this is a good way to make some money.

Nowadays, with the recession (more like modern day depression) it is very hard to get people to donate. So where does the money come from? Who is going to take care of all these abandoned animals in shelters and on the street? Unless people give a little, ten bucks would mean a great deal to us, there will be NOBODY to help and the shelters will just keep on killing them.

I have a 20 pound Jack Russell Terrier who goes insane, and I mean INSANE when you pull out the nail trimmer. The older he gets, the angrier he gets about having his nails trimmed. First the groomer would muzzle him, and now, even with the muzzle, he goes bat shit when his nails are trimmed. We had a really awesome groomer for a while. He would grab my dog up in his arms, hold him in the crook of one arm and snip, snip, snip, trim his nails with the other hand, so quickly my dog didn't even know what was going on; no muzzle at all. That guy knew no fear. Alas, he passed away about a year ago, and my dog's nails have been groomed maybe twice since. In each instance, the new groomer was left shaken, with huge scratches down his arms, my dog tried to take the poor dude's head off, and is probably in therapy for PTSD right now. I feel guilty bringing my crazy ass dog in to a new, unsuspecting, soon to be bloodied groomer.

Please recommend a groomer who knows no fear (I think my dog can spot the weak, and he can definitely sense fear). I need a groomer with balls of steel (male or female) to trim my dogs nails before he winds up in the Guinness Book of World Records of crazy terrier with ten inch long nails. We're in North Beach, but we will go anywhere here in the city. He's sweet and we love him, but when it comes to nail trimming, he's fucking mean, there's no way to stress this enough. Help us out or the poor bastards at my neighborhood groomers are surely doomed. THANKS.

Three gorgeous girls. Miss Moppet is a medium haired white darling with black spots. She is incredibly cute, with gray eyes. Loves to eat and is now one of the biggest of the litter. Tea Cup is a gray tabby with a white chest and legs. A sweet and loving girl that purrs all day long. Thimble is a Lynx Point with blue eyes and faint tabby markings. Very sweet and perky little doll. These girls are part of the Magnificent Seven born to Azure, a petite Lynx Point Siamese Mix.

These two adorable boys were rescued at the age of one week when they had gotten seperated from their mom cat. Bottle fed and later reunited with mom, they flourished and grew. This litter, a total of seven, is truly incredible. Fluffy is adventuresome, curious, very confident...and just can't stop purring. One Spot, named for the beauty mark on the side of his nose, just loves to be on a willing lap. He has a gorgeous coat and beautiful pale blue eyes. They are fostered together in Healdsburg.

Lost Dog in Pacific Heights

My dog escaped from a yard in Pacific Heights around 2:30 pm today. She's very afraid of people she doesn't know so I'm not sure that anyone would be able to catch her to read her tag.

She's an 18 lb black and tan German Hunting terrier (looks somewhat like a black Jack Russell)
Her name is Roz and she has a harness on with 2 tags.

She escaped from a yard near Jackson and Broderick but was seen running along Washington towards
Divisadero and then down Scott Street.

Hello there! Me and my family are looking for a new addition to add into our small family. We are both extremely responsible. We have a 7 month old son who LOVES dogs. He is not rough or mean to animals. Most of the time he doesn't even try to pet them, he just loves to watch them and laugh. We are looking for a smaller dog (Under 15-20lbs). We plan on bringing the new addition EVERYWHERE they can possibly go with us.

We do not have tons of money to BUY a dog but we do have money to support and help you with shots, supplies, ect that you got our puppy started with.

Meet two very special cats, Sterling and Fritz, a brother and sister team, were found in an abandoned house in Cloverdale. Their foster mom Esther has been working to socialize them and has made wonderful progress, but they are not quite tame yet and will neeed a foster parent or an owner to work with them. These beautiful darlings, though shy, are very loving and sweet. Sterling is the more timid one, while big brother, Fritz is a little more adventurous. PRIVATE (CAGELESS) BOARDING
At Paws & Claws, we provide a unique method of boarding. With Private Boarding, your pet will stay in our own approved homes. At the approved provider�s home, your pet will not be caged like other boarding facilities. They will enjoy the freedom of the house and large yard. They will receive the same care as our In-Home Pet Sitting Service, plus enjoy much more play time. Since many of us have our own pets, you must have prior approval.

QUALIFICATIONS
Your dog must meet the following qualifications:
1. Pass our temperament screening (Done at the Initial Setup Appt.-Fee $25)
2. Male dogs must be neutered by 1 year of age, or earlier if their behavior is affected negatively
3. All female dogs must be spayed regardless of age.
4. Current on the following vaccinations:
a. DHLPP (or similar)
b. Bordetella (kennel cough)
c. Rabies
5. On an approved form of topical flea & heartworm control. Acceptable products are:
a. Frontline
b. Advantage
c. Revolution
d. Interceptor (Heartworm prevention)
6. Is house broken.
7. Known not to chew on household items
8. Known not to be a problem barker
These policies are for the safety and welfare for the pets that stay at our approved homes. Space is limited.

Hi - We (my dog and cat and I) are moving to Santa Cruz soon and we need to find a new petsitter - just for a walk sometimes when I have to work late, or to stay overnight now and then when I travel. Are you responsible and kind? Maybe you'd be glad to get away and take a break for a night or two or a weekend in a clean house with a comfy bed, yummy food, a big HD TV, fireplace, wireless interenet, a peaceful backyard, and about a block to Sunny Cove beach? And the best part! - You can sleep overnight with a sweet dog and pretty cat! All this fun (!) and I'll pay $20 for a walk and $40 a night for overnight (and provide good stuff to eat.!)..This includes a dog walk and lots of hugging and tummy tickling. :-)
