Secondly, if you have outdoor pets please be sure you provide them with a safe, cool place with a huge bowl of fresh water, and check on them often! Bringing them indoors during the hottest part of the day is best.
If you have indoor pets and no air conditioning, please be sure they have lots of water, use fans in the house and if they get really hot, use a cool not cold wash cloth to rub them down every few hours, it really helps.

I'd love it if the new owner could spend a lot of time with our puppy--he loves attention and gets sad when left alone for too long. He would also love to sleep on your bed once fully house-trained.

She seemed to know & seemed sad. The day she was spayed, her mother gave birth to a second litter. First she tried to nurse, and was chased. Then, she decided she would be a mother cat after all. She climbed into the box & lay down next to the kittens and her/their Mommy. A day later she was giving them milk! She is constantly attentive and loving to them. The kittens will be 4 weeks old on May 19th, and she'll start weaning them soon. She is a very special cat. Well mannered older kitten - teen who was probably born late last year. He is litter box trained. He does not scratch furniture or drapes. He loves to play, but loves cuddling even more. He is constantly demanding to be petted or loved. He jumps in my lap every time I sit down. It's tough with 2 cats of my own to foster him as he is so affectionate and outgoing. He not only gets along with other cats, he cares for them. We have a caged feral being socialized, and he will go and sit by her and play with her! No other cat does that. He's exceptionally playful, too.
Available through an animal rescue group for donation. He is neutered, treated for fleas, nails clipped (easy to do), and has his shots.

He is shown with his sister and a second litter by his mother. Both females now spayed, kittens will not be adopted until spay /neutered, shots, etc. Buddy or his sister, also listed on Craig�s list, would be good matches if you want a second cat with him. He is almost identical to his sister.

I am going out of town and need someone to watch my two rats. They are very affectionate, friendly guys with a large cage. Although they usually free range most of the time, they would be fine in their cage for most of the weekend with some time out and about in the apartment.

Although I have a usual sitter, I need someone who has experience giving oral meds to rats. My older rat has an upper respiratory infection and is on two kinds of antibiotics and another medication. All three medications are administered orally by syringe. He doesn't love to take his meds, but he's not too bad about it. He needs the medication every 12 hours.

If you have rat experience and would be interested, please let me know. I need someone available to start Friday morning through Tuesday morning. Besides the meds, the rats would need some attention, clean water and fresh food every day. Thanks!

Mellow, plump, creamy dilute red tabby sweetheart and his greatest pleasure is rubbing noses with you at night.

He came from a ranch when he was a kitten, & grew up in our home. He was a loving, funny kitten. The people who adopted him were called three times after the adoption, each time everything was �fine�. A week or so ago I got a call they wanted me to take him back because he was afraid of their 3 big dogs, and would not come out of hiding when the dogs were around.

He does not scratch furniture, urinate or mess outside his litter box. He has a great appetite � he�s 10 pounds and less than a year old. He will be a BIG cat. �Sam-I-Am� is a lovely black kitty, just 2 years of age, who was found living on the streets and brought into our rescue program. Sam is not only handsome, but very social and people-oriented. He instantly charms all visitors with his friendly and affectionate nature, and his sweet purrrrr. If a lap is available, Sam will quickly occupy it!

Sam has been GREAT with the kids at weekend adoption events, and would be a fantastic choice for a family - probably best with older children over 8 or so (when a noisy 3-year-old came to visit, he hid under the bed). He gets along perfectly with the other cats in his foster home. He has not been exposed to dogs that we know of, but we think it likely that he could learn to get along with a gentle, cat-friendly dog if properly introduced.

Late one night, the volunteer feeder pulled up to the deserted parking lot. She was there, like every other night, to leave food for the local colony of spayed and neutered feral cats. As she approached the feeding station, she noticed two cardboard boxes out in the middle of the dark parking lot, side by side and looking curiously out of place. She approached the first box, gingerly cracked the lid and peeked inside. Two pairs of sad, scared cat eyes peered out of the tiny box. The second box had already come part way open; a single small cat cowered in the bottom, clearly terrified.

Just what she needed, more rescue cats to care for... but of course she couldn�t just leave them there. They came back to the foster home. Initially traumatized by their experience, they chose to hide for a while, but soon began to come out of their shells and reveal themselves as the wonderful kitties they are! These three young female cats are about 1-1/2 years old; they may be sisters.

Gabby... so called because she is quite the talker... is the black-and-white kitty. She�s VERY affectionate, likes to rub on the legs of visitors, and has figured out that a lap is a wonderful place to be!
Molly is a fantastically beautiful Russian Blue mix. Right now, she's the shyest of the bunch with new people. Molly wants attention on her own terms and will tell you if she�s not in the mood to be picked up, but let her take the lead and she�s quite the charmer. She would blossom with a patient person in a quiet home.
Emily is the sleek little solid-black cutie, quiet and affectionate, a wonderful companion.

Clearly, these kitties have had difficult lives so far, so they may be nervous for the first few days or weeks in their new home, but a little patience will pay off big time... they will do well in the right household. We recommend a household with some prior cat experience and no small children. All three get along fine with each other, so they would certainly do fine adopted in any combination of two, or as a single. Molly still seems really uncomfortable with the other cats in the foster home, so she probably shouldn't go into a home with existing cats. The other two went through an adjustment period, but seem to be doing much better with the other kitties lately. A home with just one or two other cats might work well for them. Dogs would probably be too intimidating.

Kibby Koo is a 2-year-old neutered domestic short hair. He�s a nice big boy with a solid build, and you can see he has fantastically beautiful marbled tabby markings! Kibby is extremely friendly, showing his affection with enthusiastic nuzzles and a loud PURRRRRRR. He�s instantly outgoing with new people, always wanting to be pet and played with. He is also very talkative and will definitely become the center of attention in the home! Kibby grew up with a lot of cats around and is very playful, but he sometimes forgets that he is playing with a person and can get a little rough if you try to use your hands while he�s in �play mode�. Therefore, we recommend using cat toys for now, but feel he would probably learn to be a little more careful in the future.

Unfortunately, early in his life Kibby did not receive all the care that he deserved and was discovered to be FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) positive when he was finally taken to the doctor. FIV affects cats only, not humans or any other type of animal. While Kibby remains very healthy and symptom free, he may have some special needs in the future. Kibby must remain 100% indoors and should be an only cat or in a family with another FIV positive cat. This will help keep him protected and healthy. Following these guidelines and with regular checkups, many FIV+ cats live a normal lifespan.

Kibby has tested negative for feline leukemia and is great with the litterbox. He is also neutered, de-wormed, and flea-free. Katie & Agatha Christie were dumped on the streets, and had a rough life on their own for a while. In their foster home, the two have become best friends! They run around the kitchen wrestling, and then when they are tired they curl up to sleep together. Quite a sight to see! They would be a great choice to adopt together, for someone looking for a pair of kitties. They are both about 2-1/2 years old, still young and frisky, but past the destructive kitten stage.

Katie is so beautiful with her soft brown tabby fur, white chest and feet. Her disposition is sweet and gentle. She can be a little shy at first, but she has made lots of progress in her foster home over the last few months, and now often approaches visitors to greet them. She has the cutest habit of coming up to you and kneading ("making biscuits") with her paws on the floor. With this girl, a little patience will be rewarded with lots of love!

Agatha is a lovely little tuxedo girl kitty. During the first few days at her foster home, she hid under a table... but then started greeting her foster mom at the door, rubbing against her legs, purring, and letting herself be picked up. Now she comes right up to guests and greets them with nuzzles and purrs!

Katana, a lovely one-year-old girl kitty, was found homeless in downtown Livermore. She has cleaned up, learned to love people, and now she�s ready to find her permanent home! First of all, Katana�s an absolutely GORGEOUS cat. With her long, luxurious brown tabby coat and tufty paws, she appears to be a Maine Coon mix. However, at 9 pounds, she�s not enormous like a pure Maine Coon. She has stunning emerald-green eyes and a magnificent plume of a tail.

Katana has an exuberant, attention-seeking personality and will definitely take center stage in the home. She is a real talker, greeting her foster parents each time they enter her room. Her version of �meow� must be heard to be believed � it�s this lyrical series of trills and chirps � the cutest noises EVER!! Katana is also VERY active and loves to play for hours on end. To her dismay, her foster parents keep her in the bathroom overnight (for the peace of the senior resident cat). However, she will occupy herself playing with her favorite jingle-bell ball. Despite her boundless energy, Katana has learned the joy of lap-sitting and is happy to take a snuggle break. She shows her affection with enthusiastic nuzzles, and purrs constantly � while cuddling, playing, you name it!

We don�t know Katana�s whole story, but it appears that she was on her own in the not-so-great outdoors for several months. As a result, she developed a habit of wariness and still kind of ducks and flinches if surprised. Therefore, she is at her best in a relatively calm environment, and would not be the right choice for noisy, large, or especially busy households, or families with small children. Older children should be fine if they are gentle and cat-savvy. Katana�s a bit shy with new people, but only at the very beginning � she quickly warmed up to her cat sitter (on the first day) when her foster parents went on vacation. (The sitter described her as a �love bug.�) If you have a pretty laid-back and quiet household, this is your girl � she will re-pay a little patience on your part with immeasurable joy!

Katana appears to get along well with other cats after an initial period of hesitancy. She has certainly never acted hostile, and should be fine living with other kitties as long as they are not too aggressive with her. If you have not gone through the process of introducing new kitties to each other before, we can give you some tips on how to accomplish this. She has never been exposed to dogs, but we�re guessing that unless you have an exceptionally calm dog, that pairing wouldn�t work out too well.

She is quite young (about 1 year) so her adopter should be ready to commit to �kitty parenthood� for potentially 15-20 years. People who can't keep their pet for whatever reason, should not be guilted into keeping a pet they neither care for or can care for.

I am GRATEFUL to the people who gave up the pets I adopted. My current pet came from a family with three kids who were overwhelmed by a high-energy dog. I have the time and experience to deal with him and he's great.

Instead of trying to make people feel bad about giving up a pet they very well may love, try to encourage RESPONSIBLE adoption. Way too many people get pets on impulse, like all the people who suddenly want a "tiny" dog because they think it's an accessory. (Accessories aren't chronically incontinent and don't yap 24/7.)

Giving up your pet may be the best thing you do for it. Don't ask for fees -- after all you paid lots of money and that didn't ensure that you'd be a good lifetime owner. Instead screen the potential adopters, do a home visit and a follow-up visit, and get a veterinary reference. And, for gods sake, neuter your pet before adopting it out.

Many breed rescues will also help private re-homing. Placing your pet in a loving new home makes everyone happier.

To save people from having to make the ride to Lake County, a volunteer is willing to bring rescued cats and kitten down to Novato on SAT. There are so many kittens coming into the shelter that it is hard to find enough homes for them and the other awful thing is that adult cats who take up a kennel may soon not only be overlooked during kitten season by the public but also might not make it out of the shelter because the kennel they are in may have to be used to house the incoming flood of kittens. Unsolveable???Sometimes, it feels that way. But, if the Bay Area people keep responding to our ads and adopt kittens and adult cat, there can be happy endings. I also wish that there could be more help with spay and neuter of cats in Lake County preventing kittens from being born. If anyone has help to offer with spay/neuter,I'm not asking for money, just ideas for grants or resources to get more spay and neuter surgeries done in Lake county, that would be very helpful. Lake County doesn't have the funds to offer enough free spay and neuter surgeries for many of the cats and dogs that need it. Please help the kittens and cats currently in the shelter. If anyone is uncertain how they feel about spay and neuter, they can go to any shelter during this merciless kitten season that is just beginning and see how many kittens are being born. There are more kittens at the shelter than the photos you see. If you don't see the kind of kitten you want, put an application in and describe what kitten you are looking for so you can be contacted when that color, sex of kitten comes in.
