Do you love doing on-the-fly analysis of the complex Web app architectures of different enterprises?
Are you pragmatic?
Are you challenged by using your systems config and scripting skills to get different Web architectures to talk to one another?
Are you excited by the idea of bringing new cloud technology to our customers and solving their real-life problems?
Do you want to be a part of a ground floor start-up backed by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, as well as Shasta Ventures and Sierra Ventures?

What We Do

We believe that anybody can put an app in the cloud. But to make it automatically scale, port across clouds and self-monitor its performance…now that is a tricky endeavor.
webappVM is a self-service, self-managing web application capsule that provides rapid deployment and integrated application management for cloud environments.
webappVM's integrated cloud control, lifecycle management, performance monitoring and log management requires no integration or agents. webappVM supports Java, PHP, JBoss and Tomcat applications. It is available today to deploy, manage and monitor your applications running in the cloud. It currently runs on Amazon EC2 and the Rackspace Cloud.
webappVM is headquartered in Redwood City, just a few blocks from Caltrain. You can view our video product overview at www.webappvm.com.

Cloud Architect

We are looking to hire our first Cloud Architect. In this role, you will work closely with our customers and partners as the technical expert on our cloud solution.
Your challenge will be to “on-board” their Web application. This includes understanding how their Web app is built and discussing choices and trade-offs of alternative architectures to take advantage of cloud benefits.
You will match technical wits every day with a different Web applications architecture at our customers. The scripting and configuration you do in the field, along with the customer feedback you gather, will be used to further architect our solution. At this early stage, your work will have a direct impact on the evolution of our product.

Responsibilities:

• Provide a short, well-defined overview of our product to customers
• Clearly explain the ROI of our product to IT decision-makers and detail how webappVM can help them migrate to the cloud
• Efficiently analyze and understand the web infrastructure of customers on the fly while using your excellent bash and/or Python scripting skills
• Troubleshoot and reconfigure Apache and other application servers as needed to get our solution to talk with their Web architecture
• Provide testing and other technical needs to enhance the overall quality of our product as we grow

Requirements:

• BSCS/BSEE with 5+ years of experience in software market
• Hands-on (and current!) professional experience configuring Apache and various application servers (such as JBoss, Tomcat, Zend Server, WebLogic, etc.)
• Excellent (and current!) scripting skills (bash, Perl, PHP, Python, and/or Ruby)
• Clear understanding of web application deployment
• Experience supporting Web applications and systems management software
• Strong technical know-how with Linux/Unix and ideally virtualization
• Self starter who enjoys working directly with customers and with the sales team
• Superb verbal and written skills with the ability to adjust presentation to the interests of the audience
• Passionate about next-generation technology
• Ability and desire to travel up to 50%

webappVM is unequivocally an Equal Opportunity Employer.
