The objective of the Corporate IT Support Engineer is to keep users happy. Servers and the network must operate smoothly and support requests need to be fulfilled in timely manner. You will support a range of people and personalities -- from business users with basic computer knowledge to software developers with mad skills. When you are not dealing with pressing Mac/Windows desktop support issues, you'll be building and maintaining our corporate Linux IT infrastructure. Whether you can step into this role right away, or if you need some guidance, a team of seasoned systems administrators will provide mentoring along the way.
Note: We run on our servers on Linux -- and users are mostly on Macs. If you're a windows person this is not for you.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide desktop support for corporate users. (90% Mac, 10% Windows)
- Administer 30+ Linux servers including: Zimbra email/calendar server, JIRA, twiki, Confluence, Samba and internal QA servers.
- Maintain Asterisk based VoIP phones and PBX servers.
- Maintain hardware inventory, software license and IT support documentation.
- Respond to alerts reported by internal monitoring systems.
- IT hardware/software procurement.
Required skills:
- Three years of general IT experience and two years of Linux administration experience -- essentially, SAGE Level II.
- Ability to troubleshoot Mac and Windows desktop/laptop issues.
- Basic understanding of networking (firewall, static routing and VPN) and ability to configure network settings for desktops, printers and networked devices.
- Familiarity with most basic system administration tools and processes (boot/shutdown machine, add/remove accounts, backup, fsck, and the use of utilities such as rsync, dd, tar, grep, etc)
- Experience with imaging solutions (Clonezilla, Ghost, Acronis, nlite, etc)
Nice to Have:
- Previous experience working with Asterisk.
- Previous experience administering Zimbra (or any major linux MTA such as sendmail, postfix or qmail)
- Experience programming/scripting with bash, Perl, Python or Ruby.
- Desire to automate repetitive tasks.
